Dr. Jarron Tilghman is a man of many talents. He’s a musician, a baker, and an interventional physiatrist who offers non-surgical treatments for orthopedic conditions.

As a physician at Rockhill Orthopaedic Specialists, Dr. Tilghman focuses on spine care using image-guided procedures. He emphasizes physical therapy, occupational therapy, injection therapies, and more. To him, each patient has a unique story to tell, and he enjoys getting to know the aspects of their lives that inspire them.

“I was trained to treat my patients like family as a general rule,” said Dr. Tilghman. “There are so many stories that they share in the context of a clinic visit that positively enhance the work environment not only for myself but also for my medical staff.”

When Dr. Tilghman evaluates a patient, he looks at their medical history and desired goals, and then does a comprehensive physical exam to identify limitations in their mobility and impact on their quality of life. Finally, he reviews diagnostic test results to identify the appropriate diagnosis and create a conservative treatment plan.

He doesn’t just treat pain—he restores purpose.

“There is no greater joy for me than to see a patient have such a positive outcome from a specific treatment plan. I recognize that it is a privilege to serve in this capacity and I do not take my responsibility lightly.”

When he takes off his lab coat at the end of the day, Dr. Tilghman wears lots of other hats. He is a husband, father of three children, singer, pianist, songwriter, baker, and youth sports coach. He also enjoys participating in medical mission trips and has served in countries like Honduras, Uganda, and Mexico.

Dr. Tilghman lives to serve others with grace, empathy, and a deep belief in the power of healing through human connection.

This Independence Day is the anniversary of Dr. Ryan Swope's retirement from the United States Air Force. Before coming to Rockhill Orthopaedic Specialists, Dr. Swope was a doctor in the Air Force, serving in Afghanistan and Iraq. Treating a high volume of complex orthopedic injuries under pressure greatly increased his passion for the field. After finishing his service, he pursued a fellowship in hip and knee surgery and became certified in robotic-assisted surgery.

“I take a lot of pride in doing things accurately and consistently, and robotics allows me to deliver that level of precision in every case,” said Dr. Swope.

Total hip and knee replacement orthopedic surgery is the perfect career for Dr. Ryan Swope because it combines his love of science, math, and hands-on work. He offers advanced treatment options like robotic-assisted knee replacements at our Shoal Creek office, which allows him to create a highly personalized approach based on the patient’s unique anatomy. This precision supports better outcomes and a smoother recovery. He also sees patients in Blue Springs.

“There’s something incredibly rewarding about helping someone restore their independence and quality of life. It’s what keeps me motivated every day,” he said.

Outside of Rockhill, Dr. Swope enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife and two daughters. Whether snowboarding, mountain biking, or enjoying time on the lake, they’re always up for an adventure together.

Thank you, Dr. Swope, for your service to our country and for helping so many patients get back to the lives they love.

This former hockey player put her hip pain on ice thanks to Rockhill Orthopaedic Specialists.

Andrea played hockey throughout high school and maintained her active lifestyle through adulthood—until constant hip pain made it impossible. Her primary care provider referred her to Dr. Megan Mayer, a fellowship-trained hip and knee specialist, who identified a torn labrum.

"Dr. Mayer said my labrum was most likely aggravated when I was younger and kept wearing down over time," said Andrea. "Growing up as a hockey fan in Colorado, I knew torn labrums were common for hockey players, but it never crossed my mind as a cause for my pain."

Andrea had a successful surgery to repair her labrum and would recommend it to anyone struggling with hip pain. Read the full story: https://heyor.ca/vvcgkn

Like father, like son: At Rockhill Orthopaedic Specialists, Dr. Larry Frevert (right) has spent decades caring for patients with skill, compassion, and quiet dedication. But his greatest legacy may be the example he set at home.

From a young age, his son, Dr. Wes Frevert (left), watched his father work long hours, round on weekends, and serve his community with unwavering commitment. He tagged along on the sidelines of football games and rounding at the hospital, not knowing those early moments would shape his future.

“I witnessed the respect people had for him and the fulfillment he found in helping others,” Wes says. “It made me want to follow in his footsteps—and taught me the work ethic it would take to get here.”

Now, after nearly a decade working together, this father and son continue to walk the same path at Rockhill.

This Father’s Day, we celebrate Dr. Larry and Dr. Wes Frevert, along with all the fathers who inspire the next generation.

As a fellowship-trained shoulder and elbow specialist, Dr. Chris Reams provides advanced orthopedic care at Rockhill Orthopaedic Specialists’ Shoal Creek location—not far from where he lives, raises his family, and enjoys the outdoors.

“I’ve had an interest in orthopedics since high school," said Dr. Reams. "I’ve always loved fixing things, and orthopedics was the perfect way to combine that mindset with a career in medicine.”

Dr. Reams specializes in arthroscopic shoulder surgery, rotator cuff repair, and shoulder replacement surgery, helping patients get back to the activities they enjoy. Because he lives in the Northland, many of his patients are familiar faces—people he sees at community events, school functions, or out at Smithville Lake with his kids.

“It’s rewarding to care for the people who make this community so special,” he said. “Shoal Creek is a convenient and well-equipped location, which makes care more accessible for Northland families.”

The Northland loves Dr. Reams!

Clark dealt with hip pain on a regular basis. He was used to feeling discomfort while competing in triathlons, but once he couldn’t even walk during a normal day without pain, it was time to do something about it.

Clark came to Rockhill Orthopaedic Specialists and met with Dr. Megan Mayer, a fellowship-trained and board-certified orthopedic surgeon who specializes in hip and knee arthroscopic procedures as well as sports medicine. She identified a tear in Clark’s labrum, the ring of cartilage that surrounds the hip joint, that required surgery. It was Clark’s first orthopedic surgery, and although he was nervous, he was committed to the recovery process.

“I was on crutches for six weeks,” said Clark. “I was very dedicated to the physical therapy. I could feel myself getting stronger every day.”

Now, more than a year after the surgery, Clark has reclaimed his active lifestyle in ways he never imagined. He has a new passion for hiking and wildlife photography and enjoys going on long hikes with his camera to capture everything he sees around him. He credits Dr. Mayer for guiding him to a pain-free life.

He only has one regret: He wishes he had done it sooner.

“I carried that pain for 15 years, and it took a toll on me,” he said. “Now, I have a whole new outlook on life, and it’s changed everything for the better.”

Nora, a licensed practical nurse at Rockhill Orthopaedic Specialists, brings a deeply personal connection to her work. Diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at just 18 months old, she wanted to care for others the way others had cared for her. While in nursing school, her husband was a patient of Dr. Wesley Frevert at Rockhill after a knee injury. From there, her interest in orthopedics was born.

Nora finds the greatest joy in building relationships with her patients and seeing them progress over time. She is proud to be in a work environment she genuinely enjoys, one that puts patients first and encourages continuous learning.

Outside of Rockhill, you will likely find her with her family friends, heading to the lake, or playing sand volleyball.
