#FridayFaces - Meet Certified Nurse Midwife Shannon Wise!
Shannon is the Lead Midwife at Loudoun Ob/Gyn & Midwives and has been involved with childbirth since 1994 when she graduated from George Mason University and became a labor and delivery nurse at Inova Alexandria Hospital.
Listening to women's needs for more than two decades and becoming a mother led Shannon to her calling as a CNM. She feels that the profession is often misunderstood and hopes that she can help more people understand why midwifery care is important.
Shannon has been able to create special bonds with women and help them navigate pregnancy, motherhood, and beyond the childbearing years. In her eyes, being a midwife means service, guidance, and providing more women with access to quality healthcare.
Fun fact: Shannon has been married to her high school sweetheart for 26 years! They built their house in Ashburn 19 years ago off of a dirt road where she used to walk her kids to pet a donkey. In one year, that same road, will allow her to take the Silver Line Metro into Tysons, Arlington, and DC. #TimeFlies! #LoveLoudounBaby #LoudounGrownBaby
This week we celebrate National Midwifery Week!
We are pleased to offer moms-to-be the option of working with a certified nurse midwife (CNM) at both The Birthing Inn and our Natural Birth Center.
Nurse midwives provide patient care during pre-conception, pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period.
We even have an amazing team of CNM hospitalists available on-site 24/7! #MidwivesRock #NMW2018 #MidwivesMakeaDifference #LoudounGrownBaby #LoveLoudounBaby

Inova Loudoun Hospital was proud to be the gold sponsor of the inaugural Women’s Health and Wellness Summit!
Thanks to all who stopped by our “#GirlTalk” breakout session where OB/GYN Dr. Anne Brown and Physical Therapist Lindani Sechele discussed pelvic floor dysfunction.
We learned that symptoms like incontinence, constipation, sexual difficulties, pelvic pain, and abnormal uterine bleeding are quite common among women — especially after childbirth. Fortunately, these disorders can often be reversed with treatment!

Jeremiah is Hero Dogs-trained specifically to work in healthcare facilities and Inova Loudoun Hospital's full-time facility dog.
"Jeremiah is able to pop bubbles and is trained to demonstrate to children that taking medicine is OK. Most importantly, his owner, Dr. Jill McCabe, said he helps ease the stress a medical emergency can bring."
We want to thank Fox 5 DC for sharing Jeremiah's story and how Hero Dogs are helping #PayitForward! #MeetJeremiah #LoveLoudounBaby #LoudounGrownBaby

#FridayFaces – Meet Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) Melissa Torres!
Melissa became a nurse midwife after falling in love with the beauty of labor and birth. She believes that the foundation of a healthy family begins with the mother – and, by meeting the healthcare needs of women, we can have a positive impact on the overall health of our communities.
Melissa has been caring for women as a RN for 8 years and has attended just under 100 hospital births as a CNM! What she loves most about being a CNM is the privilege of providing women with the guidance, encouragement, and care that she knows they need and deserve as they navigate life’s milestones. She also thinks it’s an incredible honor to attend births and watch her patients become mothers!
Melissa lives in Prince William County with her husband of 17 years and two boys. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time outdoors with her family, cooking, and building furniture. Fun fact: Melissa also served as an active duty Marine for 8 years! #LoudounGrownBaby #LoveLoudounBaby

One of my favorite pics a friend showed me after Crew was born. They couldn't wait to meet their new baby brother ❤️
Our baby boy, Crew Gaines, is here and we couldn’t be more in love. He made an unexpected (and speedy) entrance into the world two and a half weeks early - which is fitting given he was a sweet surprise from day one. Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers. We are so grateful.
So thankful for The Ladies Board of Inova Loudoun Hospital, Leesburg, VA! ❤️ #ThankfulThursday
The Birthing Inn at Inova Loudoun Hospitall’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) team would like to thank the Ladies Board Polly Clemens fund for their very generous donation.
Because of their support we can purchase a premature infant simulator, Premie HAL®. This simulator will allow our nurses and physicians to practice providing care from birth to the NICU. Perfect for both skills training and simulation-based exercises allowing our NICU team to learn and hone skills while gaining confidence to care for our tiniest of patients.
The Ladies Board of Inova Loudoun Hospital, Leesburg, VA, thank you!!
How ‘bout it ladies?! #truth #loudoungrownbaby
Happy Father’s Day to all of our daddy’s - especially those celebrating today for the first time! 💙

What a precious NICU baby and what an amazing organization!
Amanda Huhta’s struggle to find clothes for her little one - born at 1 lb,12 oz - inspired her to help other NICU moms by organizing volunteers to sew outfits that took care of more than just the measurements.
“Huhta and the others who devote their time to her organization, Twenty-Five and Four, create vest-shirts for preemies of all sizes with Velcro closures that can accommodate the medical lines and tubes that are common in the NICU, too.” ❤️
