Art class today was led by Mr.Josh and Ms.Caitlin. We had volunteers of Connie Lucas Dowell and Claire Crook. Thank you so much for making today possible for me to scoot out! While they were here i was networking with The Loudoun County Social Collective! Wow, what a great turn out!

They made amazing emotion collages and worked on learning to draw people and expression. We also had a pop in visit from our friend Kimberly!

A Farm Less Ordinary was with us for the day doing a cooking lesson!

Well done team!💙 Can’t wait to see you tomorrow!

Today I represented our artists at the Eat Loco Brambleton farmer’s market — selling their artwork, handmade soaps, and candles (all created through our life skills and vocational units). And guess what… they made money!! 💛💵

While our participants weren’t physically at the market today, every item sold reflects the skills they’ve been working so hard to build — creativity, fine motor skills, following multi-step directions, packaging, labeling, and understanding the value of their work.

This isn’t just art.
This isn’t just soap.
This isn’t just candles.

It’s confidence.
It’s skill-building.
It’s real-world preparation.

At Community Safe Haven, we focus on meaningful life skills that lead to independence and pride. Today was proof that their work has value — and our community supports inclusive opportunities.

I may be exhausted… but I am SO proud. 💛

Thank you to everyone who stopped by and supported our mission!

Dear Friends, Donors, and Supporters,

Happy February from all of us at Community Safe Haven! We are so grateful for your continued support and are excited to share updates from a very full and meaningful January, along with what’s ahead this month.

January Highlights were:
January was packed with growth, learning, and connection. Our participants enjoyed a wide range of activities designed to build independence, social skills, and emotional regulation, including:
- Art therapy
- Music therapy
- Yoga and adapted fitness
- Life skills like making and selling soaps/candles.
- Fun Friday outings that encouraged teamwork, confidence, and real-world learning.
-Painting our future bee hive!
-Explored the Ashburn sensory room

We’re especially excited to share that we welcomed two new participants this month, bringing our daily attendance to 6–8 participants. When we first opened in September, we served just 2–3 participants, so this growth has been both exciting and motivating. With growth comes opportunity—and the need for more helping hands!

Weekly Program Schedule
- Mondays: Art Therapy
- Tuesdays: Adapted Fitness
- Wednesdays: Music Therapy
- Thursdays: Yoga
-Fridays :in the community for "Fun Friday"
This month, our program focus is on emotional regulation skills and restaurant manners, helping participants build confidence and independence in everyday community settings.

February Fun Friday Outings
- 2/6: Branch Bowling Alley
- 2/13: Valentine’s Day Party at the Lodge
- 2/20: Children’s Science Center (Fairfax)
- 2/27: Metro Day – Learning how to safely ride the Metro

Program Costs & Budget Transparency
We believe in being open about our expenses so our community understands how support directly impacts our participants. Current program costs include:
- Music Therapy: $100 per session
- Art Therapy: $15 per participant
- Yoga: $75 per session
- Fun Friday Outings: $100–$200 per outing

We are not Medicaid funded, meaning our participants pay out of pocket for our services. For some, that is nearly impossible. Current tuition is $50 per day, with several participants attending on scholarships made possible by generous donations.

As our program continues to grow, we are actively seeking:
- Company sponsors
- Additional volunteers
- Support for an upcoming fundraiser to hire one additional staff member and purchase new interactive equipment

If you or someone you know is interested in sponsoring, volunteering, or supporting our next fundraiser, we would love to hear from you.

Other ways to help!
Support Our Program Through Our Soap Shop!!!!
Stop by 43 Catoctin Circle SE to purchase our hand-made soaps, created with care by our participants.
🕙 Store hours: Monday–Thursday, 10:00 AM–2:00 PM
✨ 100% of proceeds go directly back into the program and participants take turns running the cash register as a life skill.

Your support makes this growth possible. Thank you for being part of the Community Safe Haven family and helping us create a safe, supportive, and empowering space for the individuals we serve.

With gratitude,
The Community Safe Haven Team

Yesterday was a DAY at Community Safe Haven! 🐝🎨

We kicked things off with art therapy with Ms. Huyen as we painted our brand new beehive that will soon house bees for Community Safe Haven’s honey production! Mr. Josh already has an established hive with lots of honey, and this will be our secondary hive — with plans to keep adding more in the future!

After lunch, we practiced a restaurant drill 🍽️
We learned how to properly set a table and how to order a meal. Restaurants can be overstimulating and challenging — especially when you’re hungry or something goes wrong with your order — so these drills help our guys stay prepared and confident in real-life situations.

Kate and David even worked on restaurant job skills by practicing waitressing — and they did amazing!

AND yesterday kicked off the first day of sales for Community Safe Haven’s handmade soaps and candles 🕯️🧼
Our store will be open all week from 10–2 — come grab Valentine’s goodies for your loved ones!

World meet Caitlin! Community Safe Haven’s newest DSP!!

Thanks to your generous donations, we have been able to now hire employees!

"My name is Caitlin Blake, and I'm so excited to be working at Community Safe Haven as a Direct Support Professional. I graduated from Roanoke College with degrees in Education & Environmental Science in 2022. After finishing my degree, I taught in Roanoke City Schools, followed by a couple years working with a social-work nonprofit for at-risk kids and, most recently, as a math tutor. I have always felt most at home working with other disabled individuals and I've learned so much from the incredible people I've worked with of all ages during my time working with PRCS's Adaptive Recreation program, as an aide for different familes, and through participation various experiences with groups such as Special Olympics and Best Buddies over the past decade. I have a passion for the natural world, and I spend much of my free time writing, gaming, and listening to music or Dungeons & Dragons podcasts while I perfect my cakes. I'm honored to be a part of this wonderful and welcoming community that I have already fallen in love with - and I can't wait to see how it will continue to bloom along with us all!"
