Hello families! 👋

Tuesday is upon us again! Time for another tip for ! 🥰

One of my biggest regrets with all three of my births was not having a birth photographer. Or at the very least someone designated to take pictures. Now, every time I meet a newly pregnant family, I always recommend hiring a birth photographer! 📸

It doesn’t always have to be a professional photographer. If your budget it tight or you don’t like the idea of having anyone else at your birth, you can always talk to those who will be in attendance and see if any of them would be comfortable with the role. 🤗

The birthing room is a sacred space, so if decide to hire someone, you definitely want to interview several photographers before choosing which one will have the honor of attending your birth. 💗

No matter which way you decide to go, it’s important to discuss what pictures you definitely want to have and which parts you don’t want memorialized. ❤️

Let’s bust a myth around breastfeeding this week. 🤱

Way back when I was pregnant with my oldest daughter, I knew I wanted to breastfeed but had never really known any breastfeeding mothers. I didn’t really have anyone to turn to other than social media and the rest of the internet. And there is some really good information out there! But there is also some really bad information out there. 😬

However, one of my favorite pieces of misinformation came from a mom I was babysitting for at the time. After telling her I wanted to try breastfeeding, she asked me if I was going to be able to because I have small breasts. 🤔

Honestly, up until that point, I hadn’t really thought about it. I had breasts so I just assumed that was all I needed. I had never really thought about if size would matter. 😳

Lucky for me, and you, it doesn’t! The size of your breasts has no determining factor on your success of breastfeeding. A lot does go into ensuring success, and having a doula or a lactation specialist on call can go a long way in helping you reach whatever version of success you’re looking to achieve. But the size of your breast isn’t one of those things. 🤗

If you’re worried about this, or any other information you’ve found about breastfeeding (and anything else), your doula can help. From accurate, evidence-based knowledge, to helping you find the right tools and resources that fit your family, you’re doula can help. 💗

Hello families! 👋

As parents and caregivers, we spend a lot of our energy caring and meeting the needs of those around us, but it can feel like we often get lost in the shuffle. I know everyone likes to talk about how important self care is, but it can feel incredibly difficult to achieve sometimes. 😕

I absolutely understand the struggle in making self care a priority. But I also understand how important it is to have something for yourself and find *something* that makes you feel good to help you refill your cup. 🤗

Sometimes it can be as simple as something to look forward to each day or week or month. An hour or so to yourself for whatever it is that makes you feel human again. A walk. A nap. A shower. A favorite TV show. Coffee with a friend. For me I absolutely appreciate the opportunity to get lost in a good book. 📚

Lucky for me, and anyone else who enjoys reading, Wilmington has our own local chapter of a Silent Book Club! And I love the idea behind this. A bunch of book people, who may or may not know each other, getting together to read. A few times a month, the club meets at a predetermined spot and gather with their own book. A great way to spend some times along among people or making new friends of a shared love to literature. You get to decide.🤓

Self care is important. Even though it's difficult. And it may look different during different stages of parenting. But it is still vitally important. No matter what it looks like at any given time. ❤️

As we creep along through the month of September, it’s not just the holiday’s we are approaching! In the next few months, while people are busy decorating for all the festivities, many of them will also be celebrating in other ways as well! 😉

Did you know the most common birth month is August? And July through October is the most common time of the year for babies to be born? That means, starting around October and right through January, there are lots of babies being made! 😎

Whether your holiday bundle is a surprise or planned strategically for a summer/fall delivery, it is never too early to start consulting with doulas in your area! Many doulas can book up quickly and it may take you several consults to find the right fit for you and your growing family. It’s always better to start early and give yourself plenty of time to establish a solid relationship with your doula long before baby gets here! 🥰

A labor doula or a postpartum doula can both help you through pregnancy and anything you might need before baby gets here, so no matter what kind of doula you are looking to bring into your family, it’s a good idea to get to know them early. And there is always the option to hire a doula for both your birth and your postpartum! Most often, the doula you hire will flow seamlessly from one event to the next with your family. So, it’s never too early (or too late!) to get to know your doula! 💗

It is a gloomy Saturday here in Southeastern North Carolina and the best way I know how to brighten a rainy day is with ice cream from a local ice cream shop! 🍦

If you happen to be in the local Leland area, I'm sure Mimi & Papa’s Gourmet Popcorn and Sweet Shop would love to see you! Their ice cream is delicious. Their people are friendly. Their popcorn is fresh. And the smiles are free! 🥰

We take the kids here often and it's always a huge hit! They have the cutest little play area for the kids, indoor and outdoor seating, and something for everyone! Including dairy free and gluten free ice cream options! 😋

Happy September! 🍂

There is something incredibly satisfying for me when the first of the month is also the first day of the week. It feels like an extra fresh start! And I think we can all use one of those! 🤗

In honor of, what feels like, the change of the seasons and everyone's first days back to school, let's do another for with an Illness Edition! 😂

We all know back to school almost inevitably leads to more germs and everyone sharing a runny nose until after New Year's, so I thought we could have some fun with it this week! 🤪

This - or- That! Vomit or diarrhea? Pink eye or a runny nose? A fever or sore throat? I am probably going to have to go That all the way down. 🫣

How is everyone else settling in to this time of year? Anyone's littles bring home a delightful germ yet? A doula can be super helpful while you are down for the count with an illness from your little ones! We can help make sure you get the rest and care you need to get better by handling other things around the house and with your family. Doula's care for more than just the baby. I just want to give a shoutout to SaltWaterGypsy on this for a great haircut this afternoon! 🤩

My oldest wanted a trim and a cute style for the new school year and we didn't know where to go. But a friend mentioned for her daughter and we were not disappointed! 🥰

The stylists were super friendly and the whole salon was clean and cute! And the best part was how much my daughter loves her new hair cut! 😍

Back to school season is officially upon us! 👨‍🏫

How is everyone holding up this first week? 🙈

My oldest started school a few weeks ago, and my younger two are still homeschooled, but most of the rest of the public schools officially started this week! Back to school can be a big adjustment for families, no matter what grade each of your kids is starting. Add a new baby to the family at the same time and things can get overwhelming quickly. 😬

Having an extra set of hands during chaotic times of the day can make getting back into the swing of things so much easier! And you guessed it, those hands can be those of a doula. 😎

A doula can be there to support your family no matter when or what you might need them for. Even if it’s an assistant chaos coordinator while getting your big kids out the door for school or staying back with your tiniest while you bus your big kids to school. A doula can be a great back-to-school supply for the whole family. 🤗

And just for fun, and because I miss the days when all three of my kids were homeschooling and I didn’t have to coordinate the chaos of getting my oldest out the door on time, here is a picture from one of our homeschool days last February for . 💗

Hello families! 👋

Wednesday is upon us again so that means it’s time for some more on this . 😊

This week I have some words of advice from a therapist that I follow. Her words were originally meant for a much broader audience, but I think they are quite fitting for this group as well. ❤️

“Celebrate daily wins. Simple things can still be triumphs.” – Therapy in a Nutshell 💗

I do truly believe this is great life advice in general, but for mom’s and other primary caregivers, I think this might hit home. Especially in those first few days and weeks of new parenthood when everything seems incredibly overwhelming. It can be hard to see anything except the difficult and messy parts. It’s in those moments, it’s really important to celebrate those small victories. 🤗

Doulas are great at reminding of those small moments as well. While also allowing for them to occur more often. The helping hand of a trusted doula can do amazing things for your daily win count. And your emotional wellbeing. 💞

No matter what stage of parenthood, or life, you’re in, I hope you remember to celebrate those daily wins. 💖
