Self care
When we take care of our basic needs, we set the foundation for our holistic health. Did you know that self-care can help strengthen our immune systems, improve mental health, and develop resilience? This is because engaging in basic self-care signals our brain to release “feel good” hormones dopamine, oxytocin, serotonin, and endorphins.
•Dopamine is tied to motivation and reward (as when we cross something off
our to-do list)
•Oxytocin is released when we make time for meaningful relationships and feel
loved and understood.
•Serotonin is linked to satisfaction and
recognition (feeling seen).
• Endorphins are released by the brain when we work out, take a walk, or meet
a physical goal.
