What Veganism Does To Your Body

People think veganism is all about tofu and kale, but it's not. Veganism is a lifestyle that affects your body in ways you probably never considered—and some of them are really good!

It can improve your heart and arteries

Vegan diets are often low in saturated fat, which is good for your heart. They're also high in fibre, which helps lower cholesterol levels. For example, a study published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health found that vegetarians had lower levels of LDL (bad) cholesterol than meat eaters.

Vegan diets can help you live longer

The same study found vegetarians were less likely to die prematurely from heart disease or cancer than meat eaters. And a study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that vegans had significantly lower rates of death from all causes combined than nonvegetarians did.

Vegan diets may reduce your risk for type 2 diabetes

Studies show that vegans have lower blood sugar levels than nonvegetarians do—and have an 18% lower risk for developing diabetes over time compared with nonvegetarians (Journal of Human Nutrition and Dietetics).

If you're a vegan, you're probably already aware of all the awesome health benefits that come along with your lifestyle choice. But did you know that being vegan also makes you a better person? It's true! Vegans are kinder than most people because they don't eat animals or animal products—and they're more likely to help out others because they understand how hard it is to live without eating meat or dairy products.

Vegans also tend to be more environmentally conscious than other people (they wouldn't want to harm animals if they didn't have any skin in the game themselves). So if you want a friend who is going to look out for both their own health AND yours while also being kind AND considerate toward others? A vegan is your best bet! 😁
