If feeding suddenly feels harder this week, you’re not imagining it — and you’re not doing anything wrong.

December brings a perfect combination of things that make feeding feel “off”: colder weather (hello, body tension), holiday overstimulation, disrupted naps, bright lights, more visitors, and babies who are trying to take it all in at once.

Those tiny shifts show up as:
popping on and off
frustration at the breast or bottle
shorter or distracted feeds
clicking
tension in the jaw or body
more wake-ups
a latch that feels… different

Feeding challenges don’t mean you failed.

They mean your baby needs support — not guesswork.

If something feels off, trust that instinct. Getting help early can make feeding feel calm and connected again.

When the temperature drops and it takes three layers just to walk to the car, the last thing you need is to bundle up a newborn for feeding help.

That’s why our virtual and in-home visits exist.

Whether you’re navigating a newborn latch, bottle refusal, low supply worries, or feeding changes that don’t make sense, you don’t have to leave the house to get answers.

You can stay warm, stay comfortable, and still get skilled, compassionate support.
Virtual visits are perfect for troubleshooting, pumping guidance, or prenatal prep.
In-home visits give you hands-on, tailored help — without stepping into the cold.
Winter doesn’t have to make feeding harder.

You deserve support that meets you where you are.

If your baby has been harder to settle lately — pulling off during feeds, getting frustrated at the breast, arching, popping on and off, or melting down halfway through — they’re not “just being fussy.”

This is their communication system.

Babies don’t have words… but they do have patterns.

And when feeding is uncomfortable, uncoordinated, tiring, or confusing for them, those cues get louder.

In this week’s blog, I’m breaking down:
— Why babies become “fussy feeders”
— The difference between normal newborn behavior and true feeding difficulty
— Early cues that something deeper is going on
— When it’s time to get support
— And what you can do today to help your baby feel more settled

If your gut has been whispering that something feels off, this will give you the clarity you’ve been looking for.

If you’ve worked with Abbey before, you already know: she brings a level of calm expertise that makes feeding suddenly make sense.

As an Occupational Therapist, craniosacral therapist, infant feeding specialist, AND a lactation consultant, she looks at feeding through a different lens — one that considers how your baby moves, how they coordinate, where they’re holding tension, and how their little body is supporting (or struggling with) the latch.

Her appointments often feel like a mix of reassurance, gentle problem-solving, and finally understanding what your baby has been trying to tell you.

She’s officially back in the office, and she has just a December craniosacral therapy and lactation spots left. Occupational therapy appointments are booked until January.

If your baby needs a little extra help with tension, stamina, latch coordination, or movement, Abbey is the perfect person to guide you through.

Anthem BCBS of KY families experiencing breast or bottle feeding challenges, having issues with solid foods, or seeing generalized body tension in their baby: There are just 2 OT evaluation spots left in December. If you have a PPO plan that covers OT, you may owe just your specialty copay (plans vary).

If your baby seems to work really hard during feeds — clicking, slipping, fussing, tiring out quickly, or wiggling through the whole session — it’s not because they’re picky or dramatic.

It’s because feeding is a full-body skill.

When babies hold tension in their jaw, neck, shoulders, or even their trunk, feeding becomes something they have to push through instead of something that comes naturally. That tension affects the latch, the seal, the swallow, and even how long they can stay engaged at the breast or bottle.

That’s where our body-based support comes in.

With gentle techniques and a whole-body approach, we help babies release tension, coordinate their movements, and feed more efficiently — without frustration or overwhelm.

Feeding shouldn’t feel like a struggle for either of you.
If something feels “off,” trust that feeling.

Abbey is booked in December for OT sessions but you can get on her wait list or schedule for January!

This is one of my favorite reviews, because it perfectly sums up the mission of Kentucky Breastfeeding Center: to help moms feel supported, understood, and seen, so that they can deepen their connection with their baby. We firmly believe healthy mothers create healthy babies, no matter the feeding method.
