TALK TO YOU NICE! 🔊🔊🔊

Positive vibes isn’t just a catchy slogan for yogis.

As someone who deals with anxiety and a barrage of intrusive thoughts, it is easy for me to feed into them and go down that road. I want to protect myself from the harms of the world but it doesn’t allow me to attract a more positive future for myself.

I don’t want to get too lost in the weeds with this, but I know how important it is to harness my own power. I hope you feel the same way.

If you’re looking for a sign, this is it. 🛑

I’ve seen a lot of posts over the past few days as we all wrapped up a challenging January. And I keep seeing amazing, bad ass women I know considering self-care as a finish line, accessible only after they have an exhaustive list of tasks.

We gotta stop that.

I am still am one of those women. Leaving self-care as a “treat” at the end of the day. But the danger of doing that lies in the fact that life happens, and that care gets pushed back. That wellness gets pushed back. That healing gets pushed back.

We don’t have to earn care. We need to fight the urge that we don’t deserve it no matter where we are in our to-do list.

One of my schedule non-negotiables is my 10 minute meditation and water. It’s in the middle of my work day. It’s even more important when I’m overwhelmed. Inserting calmness, positivity, and stillness into my day is what I deserve. It’s what you deserve too.

Whether it’s a 10 minute meditation or a 10 day retreat - resist the urge to justify your care in relation to your ‘productivity.’ What’s yours is yours, period. 🧘🏾‍♀️🌱

Start your Black History Month off STRONG 💪🏾by following these brilliant Black yogis!

🧘🏾‍♀️This BHM, as a civil rights lawyer turned yoga teacher, I’m more sure than ever that representation matters in wellness spaces.

🧘🏽Black people have been relegated to the margins of healing and self care for too long, so I’m promoting revolutionary wellness for all. ✊🏾

🧘🏿‍♂️These 20 yogis aren’t just great practitioners, but they are conscientious change agents, engaged activists, authentic healers, and equity advocates.

Please show them love! 💗I respect all of you for sharing your journeys with so many. The revolution is on the mat and Black excellence is endless! ✊🏾♾

Don’t let my smile fool you. I had a VERY hard January.

I can’t even process that we had a domestic terrorism event this month. Can’t.

Personally, it’s been stressful. Trying to get my business off the ground while navigating my 9-5 while trying to fill in my other commitments has really done a number on me. I’m walking out of this month exhausted and a little unsure if I’m doing the right thing. Like, is it normal to feel like you don’t have any footing? Floating all damn month?

But I’m going into February as my new year. Not only is it Black History Month, but I am launching my brand on my own platform, with over 75 new designs, collaborating with brands (yay), getting back into Your Yoga Homegirls with my bestie, enjoying Valentine’s Day with my bae, officially finishing my office, and hopefully start teaching in small groups.

To anyone who had a tough month and feel like that’s your lot for 2021 - it’s a NO. You’re good. You’ve got this. I’m with you. We’ll do it. We’ll get there.

Please give me a ✊🏾 (in whatever color emoji you want!) in solidarity. Love you all.

Halppppp! I’ve fallen and I can’t get up 🥲

No, but seriously. I have a massive thorn in my side - really my lower left back side, that is so tender and throbbing, so I’m asking for help!

I’ve done about every restorative yoga pose and stretch that I can think of over the past four days. Still super tender! 🥵

I’m trying to avoid prescription medication, but I may have to give in soon for some extra relief. I don’t know how this happened, so I’m feeling kind of bummed and frustrated with my body.

Any personal tips on lower Back pain?!! I’m seeking any and all thoughts today. Trying to not let my anxiety get the best of me - I will be able to return to my splits. Someday, hopefully soon. 🧘🏾‍♀️🌱

Me, right now.

My capacity can flip on a dime these days. And during this pandemic, I have the audacity to make big life changes. Audacity to change my whole world.

And I’m tired.

And I’m wondering is this normal.

This is normal.
We are okay.
We will be okay.

Rest. Keep going. 🌱

I’d like to introduce y’all to my new bae! ☺️His name is Barack the bolster.

Seriously, I don’t know what I was doing without this bolster. Barack, or Barry, as I call him because that’s my boo, has made my restorative practice so much richer.

Particularly last night! I was teaching a class to my beloved aunties but I was nursing a wicked lower back pain. Barry held me down! Supported child’s pose? Yes. Sitting on the edge in lotus? Yes. Yes. Even savasana? Yes yes yes!

Next week, I’m delving into a basic chair yoga sequence for my aunties. Less pressure on their knees is best at this point and I’m excited to keep the ball rolling towards more accessible yoga, particularly for Black women of a certain age. My auntie told me she slept better than she had in years, I’m so happy! Let’s get this healing!

In other news, I recently became an Amazon Influencer, which is super cool. Soon, I’ll share where I get my favorite yoga props, tools, books, and decor for my space so stay tuned. This bolster is from Amazon - it is a MUST.

Do y’all practice with a bolster? If so, what are your favorite poses? Let me know, so that Barry and I can get better acquainted 😂

Sis, got me looking like an au natural plum! And I love it.

Making sure I’m functional but still fashionable while working from home and getting my yoga on throughout the day is important to me. It’s easy for me to throw on one of my old tees. But I KNOW I feel better when I’m put together. I stay with a beat face, as y’all know, and getting into athleisure that can carry me COMFORTABLY through the day is super important. Not sponsored, I just love this wintery shade and I love a good plum color!

My body fluctuates a lot in winter. So does my feelings about my body. To celebrate my tummy, I purchased some more waist beads! Seriously, the best decision I made in 2020. I currently have 9 on and I chose them all intentionally. I feel more conscious about my body with my waist beads, but somehow less judgmental. How? Idk, but I’ll take it.

Let me know if you are team getting fully dressed for work! Also, do you have any tips for those of us who struggle a bit? For me, I set out an outfit the night before so that I have one less excuse! Even if I change into something later, or if I stay in my tee shirt, I try not to give myself grief. It’s a pandemic, honey! 🧘🏾‍♀️🌱

The past few days since I announced I completed my training, I’ve gotten a ton of questions about how did I push through.

TBH, idk.

There were a lot of factors, but perhaps the most important for me was that I refused to go into 2021 without my coursework done. Refused. Idk if that’s just because I’m a hard headed Capricorn or my type A shenanigans. But it was so.

With that being said, this process was a challenge. Making time for something I wasn’t sure I was going to finish at some points seemed wasteful. But what kept me going is that I knew I was changing through yoga. So, whatever it was worth, I was gonna finish.

I have a LOT of questions about my YTT journey in my inbox. I’m sorry I’ve been trying to decompress this week so I ask for your patience. I have a post tomorrow that will share some insight and some blog posts that will answer the rest, but! I’m leaning into resting right now. Sending love 💕 and a reminder that healing takes time but you deserve it. 🧘🏾‍♀️

I so deeply want you to remember this as you head into the weekend. Brick by brick.
