Early Mother's day activity picking tulips with the family! Even though it was rainy and chilly this morning we still had a blast at and loved all the colorful tulips to choose from!

Our very own homegrown Hooligan Pumpkin! This is only the second time I have grown a pumpkin in the last 10 years and my son was so excited to grow such a funny one like a hooligan! Hope everyone has a great start to their October. We've been apple picking several times and picked out pumpkins at a local church that was donating proceeds to People Helping People. I am all for not only supporting locally grown but also local charities that give back to the community! Win win!

🥕!!! I get so excited whenever I grow carrots successfully because they are so finicky for me and out of the whole package of seeds I planted, only 3 grew big enough to be of consequence. I picked this one today and was so excited it worked!

The garden is winding down but I'm still getting cherry tomatoes, wax beans, and I have a couple more carrots waiting to be picked next time I need one.

Had so much fun at Red White and Berry festival over the weekend. Picked some delicious and gigantic blueberries! Also had fun on the tractor ride and picked up some treats and a coffee from the farm stand. We already made 2 batches of blueberry muffins and still have tons leftover! 🫐

What a colorful haul from our CSA! We love to pickle these small purple onions and my son has already eaten most of the corn and tomatoes! It's such a treat to get these seasonal foods and incorporate more colors into our diet.

Hope everyone had a great 4th of July! We started the day off with a 2 mile walk in and out of town to run some errands on foot, followed by a little raspberry forage on the way home! All these raspberries (fit a quart soup container) were foraged by our house. Quite an exciting haul considering how fast we go through berries in this house!

No filter needed for these amazing cherries from .fruit.farm ! This is a favorite activity for us to do with the extended family. The cousins love running through the cherry trees while the adults pick cherries. I'd say we'd make some good treats with them but let's be honest ~ cherries don't last that long in our house.

Strawberry leaves of epic proportions! Let's hope I get some epic strawberries to go with it! We have been transplanting a lot of strawberries this spring that have popped up in the ground along our garden area from previous "runners". Hopefully moving them into pots and some hanging baskets will ensure I can get a decent crop this season 🍓 #

Absolutely lovely morning for the opening day of Pick Your Own Tulips! We try to go Tulip Picking every year around Mother's day and decided to mix it up and try Wilson Farm. It was very well organized and a reasonable price compared to other PYO tulip options. Love supporting local farms and locally sourced flowers!

Finally feeling like Spring on Easter! Hoping everyone had a lovely weekend with family and friends. It was near 60 degrees today so we got several hours of outside time. My daffodils are starting to bloom and I'm so thankful for that! Snow on the horizon this week though so holding off on planting more seeds until the snow clears.

Success!! I haven't even had time to edit my video footage, and we already have our first bit of maple syrup! This was a much easier process than I expected. We are so excited to have tapped our own maple trees and boiled it down to syrup. Just in time for National Pancake Day today!

We're doing a thing! Decided to try our hand at tapping some maple trees in our yard to see if we can make our own maple syrup! 🍁

My father-in-law gave me some spiles years ago and we finally got buckets and tubing to go with them and trying it out.

So far we've collected 3 gallons of sap over 2 days and are boiling it as I type.

I'll post more updates in the coming week but we are very exciting to try this homesteading activity.

About Me

Hi my name is Alex and I am the creator of the Live Green Be Well movement. I’m a Registered Dietitian, Certified Personal Trainer, and lover of all things food, fitness, fun, and adventure. I live just outside the Boston area with my husband and am originally from CT. On the weekends you’ll find me on the trails, in the garden, at a yoga class, or spending time with family and friends. I first started Live.Green.Be.Well under the name The Farmer’s Market Dietitian back in the Summer of 2018 as a creative outlet for myself. Since then, I re-branded to Live Green Be Well and it’s become so much more for me. It is an extension of myself and my beliefs around health and sustainable wellness. To me, wellness is more than the absence of disease, it is our quality of life, our mental outlook, and also living in a simple, sustainable, and locally sourced way that helps give back to our planet and our communities. I hope this platform provides resources and tips not only for eating locally and seasonally, but also for ways to “Be Well’ whether it means taking to heart a Self Care Sunday or focusing on building a new sleep routine. I also hope to share with you some of my travels in support of my mantra “Be a Local When You’re Local”. All of my recipes incorporate some level of locally sourced/seasonal ingredients whether from a local farm or my own backyard. I encourage all of you to grab a reusable bag and head to the farmers markets to support local agriculture and cuisine one bite at a time!
