Hi! Alexa and Meredith here 👯‍♀️

We are co-owners of The Diet Doc Movement, nutrition consultants, fitness professionals, goal chasing enthusiasts and moms.

And we know we’ve been quiet on here this year… well because 👆👆👆

See priorities aren’t a static list, they are constantly being rearranged. Just because one thing… like our social media posts… have moved towards the bottom of the list, doesn’t mean we have to delete our account and start a new one on Monday. It means, we do the best we can to post, with the time we have.

Kind of like nutrition… even us as busy entrepreneurial moms… just because we didn’t have time to make an elaborate meal prep this holiday weekend, it doesn’t mean we have to eat like garbage all week to start over on Monday.

Frozen veggies over fresh — big whoop!
Drive-through grilled chicken sandwich over home-made — it’s fine!
Ham sandwich instead of tilapia, broccoli and rice — a-o-k!

Just because a priority moves down the list, it doesn’t mean it has to be kicked off the list 🗒️

Let us first start by stating, a calorie deficit is the ONLY way to lose body fat.

BUT, you don’t need to track every macro. Mastering these few key habits will help get you into a comfortable deficit.

🥤 Stop drinking calories. Liquid calories don’t keep you full and can sneak in 300–500 extra calories fast.
🍳 Add protein + fiber at every meal. They slow digestion, keep you satisfied, and protect lean muscle during a cut.
🚶‍♀️ Increase your daily steps. Movement outside your workouts (aka NEAT) makes a huge difference in overall calorie burn without a huge impact on hunger.

Do these three consistently and you’ll move the needle.

Tracking macros ensures you’re in a calorie deficit + optimizes the process of losing body fat. BUT it doesn’t mean you can’t start the process simply because you refuse to do it.

Tracking is an amazing tool to start to understand what it is we are eating!

Tracking accurately is an amazing tool to start to change body composition!

Take this medium to large apple here... if we had just logged it, we would have accounted for ~22g carbs and 80-88 calories in the 154 gram apple.

This deliciousness weighed in at 401 grams! Meaning this apple is ~57g of carbs and 228 calories!

Had one of the best salads of my life this weekend 🤤

Also had one of the most calorically dense salads of my life this weekend 🍽

Macros and tracking and measuring isn’t just to lose/gain weight 🚫 it’s to understand at large 🤓

I approximated this salad to have about 900 calories.

So tracking macros isn’t restrictive, it’s insightful.

If you’re not losing weight, you aren’t in a calorie deficit. And a is the ticket to drop bodyfat.

Whole foods are the ticket to health.

Tracking macros lets you improve your health and understand your energy balance.

So 2/3 of this salad served as my brunch in the AM. 1/3 of this salad served as a snack in the PM. 3/3 of this salad was enjoyed, tracked photographed.

When we solely chase being skinny, dieting doesn’t feel good.

Crash diets, dehydration, restricting foods, alllll the cardio.. yes, it helps reduce the number on the scale. But —

smaller body ≠ better body

That’s why we coach our clients on how to not only drop body fat, but feel good while doing it.

Building muscle, stabilizing blood sugar, incorporating real life events that include birthday cake or family trips… these are the types of things that make the pursuit of fat loss, feel good.

The only way to lose body fat is to be eating in a CALORIE DEFICIT. The only way to feel good while losing fat is to find a SUSTAINABLE APPROACH.

And what we are discovering with our clients is that the only way to truly love the results of your lost weight is to build some muscle while doing it 🏋️‍♂️

Flexible Dieting isn’t just making your macros fit ❌ it’s about creating a sustainable diet to fit your goals and your lifestyle.

Flexible Dieting can be applied to fat loss when paired with a calorie deficit, strength gain when paired with a calorie surplus and a progressive overload training schedule, or a period of maintenance with lyou guessed it] a calorie maintenance.

The principles still stay the same, eat mostly whole foods with the occasional “fun” foods🍕🍩🍷
