We’re thrilled to introduce Katie, the newest member of our Clinical Support Staff at NHO! In her role, Katie will be assisting patients in a variety of ways, including scheduling chemotherapy appointments, helping them get settled in their rooms, and answering incoming calls.
Please join us in giving her a warm welcome to Nebraska and to the NHO family!
Here's some more about Katie...
Where did you grow up? I have lived in Vermont my entire life: this is actually the first time I have lived outside of Vermont!
Fun Fact about yourself: My dog is the most important man in my life!
What was your very first job? My very first job was at a family resort in Vermont on the Canadian border called The Tyler Place. I was an on-call hourly sitter for the owners' kiddos. Because they were older, we did a lot of biking, hiking, and swimming, and opted not to participate in the Kids Camp group activities.
What’s your favorite holiday and why? My favorite holiday... probably a tie between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Thanksgiving, because I love being around my family. And Christmas because I love seeing the joy on my nieces and nephews' faces when they are opening their presents.
Favorite Type of Music: Country with a little bit of rock. Nickelback, Jelly Roll, Kip Moore, and Bon Jovi are just a few of my favorites.
What are your hobbies or things you like to do in your spare time? Reading, listening to music, baking, experimenting with new recipes, kayaking, swimming, shopping, and spending time with my dog.
If you could describe yourself as an animal, what would it be and why? An elephant. When they are babies, they are really cute, and when they get older, they are super protective of their loved ones. And they are always smiling, it seems!
What is one thing you want to do at least once in your life? Skydiving! Bungee jumping! Kayaking in the ocean in a glass-bottom kayak.
What famous person would you most want to be friends with? I think I would want to meet Michael J Fox. I have actually already met him at a Bagel Shop in Burlington, VT, and I accidentally stepped on his foot. I would like to apologize for that! He probably doesn't remember, but I felt awful, and he just walked away.
What’s one thing you want everyone to know about you? One thing I would like everyone to know about me is that I truly am happy to be here! I love serving the Oncology population, as they are often among the most vulnerable. I pride myself on how I advocate for patients getting what they need in a timely manner. As a cancer survivor myself and the caregiver for several loved ones who have battled cancer, I have a unique perspective and can offer an empathy that cannot be taught.
What are you looking forward to the most about working at NHO? Since I worked for an Oncology practice back in Vermont, I think I am most looking forward to the ways different offices operate, and I hope that I can bring some new ideas to the table. I am also looking forward to learning a new way to do my job and stepping a bit outside my comfort zone.
