Travel to all 50 states and visit the French Polynesia Islands, along with visiting Glacier National Park and Zion National Park.

Staff parties, Golf Tournament, and when NHO sponsors a team for the mud volleyball in Prague.

What has changed at NHO through the years?
A lot has changed since I started at NHO 5 years ago, so much growth in every department. The billing department went from being upstairs in a smaller area behind the front desk area to moving downstairs.

What has stayed the same?
Compassion and high-quality care are given to our patients not only from the front-line staff but from every department, even the behind-the-scenes departments.

Describe what you love most about working at NHO:
Coworkers turning into family. Also being able to help patients in ways that they don't expect, especially when they are dealing with and going through one of the hardest times in their lives.

We’re thrilled to introduce Katie, the newest member of our Clinical Support Staff at NHO! In her role, Katie will be assisting patients in a variety of ways, including scheduling chemotherapy appointments, helping them get settled in their rooms, and answering incoming calls.

Please join us in giving her a warm welcome to Nebraska and to the NHO family!

Here's some more about Katie...

Where did you grow up? I have lived in Vermont my entire life: this is actually the first time I have lived outside of Vermont!

Fun Fact about yourself: My dog is the most important man in my life!

What was your very first job? My very first job was at a family resort in Vermont on the Canadian border called The Tyler Place. I was an on-call hourly sitter for the owners' kiddos. Because they were older, we did a lot of biking, hiking, and swimming, and opted not to participate in the Kids Camp group activities.

What’s your favorite holiday and why? My favorite holiday... probably a tie between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Thanksgiving, because I love being around my family. And Christmas because I love seeing the joy on my nieces and nephews' faces when they are opening their presents.

Favorite Type of Music: Country with a little bit of rock. Nickelback, Jelly Roll, Kip Moore, and Bon Jovi are just a few of my favorites.

What are your hobbies or things you like to do in your spare time? Reading, listening to music, baking, experimenting with new recipes, kayaking, swimming, shopping, and spending time with my dog.

If you could describe yourself as an animal, what would it be and why? An elephant. When they are babies, they are really cute, and when they get older, they are super protective of their loved ones. And they are always smiling, it seems!

What is one thing you want to do at least once in your life? Skydiving! Bungee jumping! Kayaking in the ocean in a glass-bottom kayak.

What famous person would you most want to be friends with? I think I would want to meet Michael J Fox. I have actually already met him at a Bagel Shop in Burlington, VT, and I accidentally stepped on his foot. I would like to apologize for that! He probably doesn't remember, but I felt awful, and he just walked away.

What’s one thing you want everyone to know about you? One thing I would like everyone to know about me is that I truly am happy to be here! I love serving the Oncology population, as they are often among the most vulnerable. I pride myself on how I advocate for patients getting what they need in a timely manner. As a cancer survivor myself and the caregiver for several loved ones who have battled cancer, I have a unique perspective and can offer an empathy that cannot be taught.

What are you looking forward to the most about working at NHO? Since I worked for an Oncology practice back in Vermont, I think I am most looking forward to the ways different offices operate, and I hope that I can bring some new ideas to the table. I am also looking forward to learning a new way to do my job and stepping a bit outside my comfort zone.

More about Kaite...

Describe NHO in 3 words:
Compassionate, dedicated, driven

What are your hobbies or things you like to do in your spare time?
I love spending time with my two kids, my husband, and our two 90-pound dogs! We have a 3-year-old daughter, a 9-month-old son, a husky, and a goldendoodle. They keep us extremely busy—and we wouldn’t have it any other way (except maybe for a little more sleep). 🙂

What’s a fun fact about yourself?
I’ve been skydiving, parasailing, and taken a hot air balloon ride—and I loved all of it! However, I’m terrified of flying on planes.

What is one thing you want to do at least once in your life?
Travel to Bora Bora or the Maldives.

What famous person would you most want to be friends with?
Morgan Wallen—because I love his music!

What’s one thing you want everyone to know about you?
I stumbled into oncology by accident. When I applied for my first nursing job, the position was on a neurology floor—but I didn’t realize it was also a medical oncology floor. It didn’t take long for me to fall in love with this field and the amazing patients. They inspire me every day.

Do you have a favorite memory of your time working at NHO?
I’m not sure if I’d call it a favorite, but it was definitely memorable! While I was training on bone marrow biopsies, NHO temporarily lost power—right in the middle of a procedure. All the nurses rushed in and turned on their flashlights, and we were able to finish the biopsy safely and successfully. The patient even took a nap during it!

What has changed at NHO through the years?
It’s amazing how much each department has grown—from our billing and coding team to the nursing staff, research department, and our Advanced Practice Provider team.

What has stayed the same?
Despite all the growth, our dedication to providing high-quality patient care has never changed. It truly takes a village, and the collaboration between departments is outstanding.

Describe what you love most about working at NHO:
I love working with our team, but even more so with our patients. Their stories, strength, and determination are incredible and inspiring. We get to know each other well throughout their cancer journey, and I truly value the relationships I build with them.

With a passion for patient care and a deep understanding of oncology medications, she brings both expertise and compassion to every interaction. We’re thrilled to have her on board as we continue to provide the highest level of care to our patients. Welcome to the team, Charleen! 💊

More about Charleen...

In your own words, what will you be doing at NHO?
I will be working in the pharmacy, dispensing oral medications for patients.

Where did you grow up?
I was born in Saigon, Vietnam, and came to the U.S. when I started high school in Sioux City, IA.

Fun fact about yourself:
When I was still in pharmacy school, I already dreamed of retiring and rescuing dogs full-time. I knew nothing about rescuing animals—but they were cute!

What was your very first job?
I stocked books at the library.

What’s your favorite holiday and why?
The 4th of July, because I love watching fireworks.

Favorite type of music:
'90s pop music.

What are your hobbies or things you like to do in your spare time?
I like to spend time with my family playing games and watching movies.

If you could describe yourself as an animal, what would it be and why?
A mongoose—I’m tiny but fierce.

What is one thing you want to do at least once in your life?
Take one of those around-the-world cruises.

What famous person would you most want to be friends with?
Morgan Freeman—he has the voice of God!

What’s one thing you want everyone to know about you?
I enjoy deep conversations about important topics.

What are you looking forward to most about working at NHO?
The great people I get to work with—everyone is so kind and caring. NHO has a contagious desire to help people, and I want to be a part of that.
