When Joshua Parde’s mom was receiving treatment for breast cancer, he started folding origami butterflies to distract himself. Then he gave one to someone, and the smile he received in return inspired him to share more.

Now you’ll see origami butterflies all over the April Sampson Cancer Center. He encourages people to pick up two – one for themselves and one to brighten someone else’s day.

Watch this video to hear his story and how his work with the Boy Scouts is teaching acts of kindness to the next generation.

Congratulations to the staff on W-7S, Med Surg Innovation Unit, at Bryan West Campus on receiving the annual DAISY Team Award.

Here is what was shared:
In the face of a heartbreaking tragedy that affected one of our co-workers, the team demonstrated compassion, resilience and solidarity. The collective efforts not only provided emotional and practical support to the co-worker's family but also ensured the continued delivery of exceptional patient care.

The W-7S team's response to this tragedy exemplifies a core value of Bryan: "One Team One Purpose." Their actions not only provided a measure of comfort to the family but also demonstrated outstanding teamwork.
