Check out this team...We have been CELEBRATING our staff this week with some behind the scenes fun- they really are the heartbeat of Nebraska Weight & Wellness!

Karen is celebrating her one year anniversary with NWW! She is the lady behind the wonderful LAUGH and the very busy front office operations. We are so thankful for her friendly smile and the fun she brings to our office each day.

Meg is also celebrating one year as a nurse with NWW! She brings many years of nursing experience to our team and loves to share her knowledge on health and nutrition with patients when asked. She has a true teaching spirit and we love her BIG heart and dedication to healthcare!

Mindy is our newest team member and we are celebrating her as it is National Medical Assistant Week! Mindy brings many years of serving patients throughout clinics in Lincoln and we LOVE the positive attitude and friendly spirit she brings to our patients each day.

Access to evidence-based obesity care is not just a medical issue—it’s a workplace benefits decision. Employers determine which treatments are covered under your insurance plan.

✔️ If you want obesity treatment to be covered, start the conversation with your employer.
✔️ Ask your HR or benefits manager if anti-obesity medications and related therapies are included in your plan.
✔️ Advocate for comprehensive coverage, just as we do for diabetes, hypertension, and other chronic diseases.

Change begins when patients and employees speak up. Together, we can make access to care the standard, not the exception.

Today is World Physical Therapy Day! Physical therapy can be an important tool to treat pain and regain mobility in order to achieve the physical fitness goals necessary for weight management. September is National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month.

The latest data shows that:

👉20% of children and adolescents (ages 2-18) struggle with obesity
👉The biggest increase in BMI is between the ages of 5-12 years old, especially since the Covid-19 pandemic
👉Waiting for children to outgrow their obesity or to "grow into their frame" is a MYTH. Childhood obesity should be evaluated by a medical professional early as it is a complex condition

The Obesity Action Coalition has shared a video by Dr. Aaron Kelly which gives a great overview of childhood obesity and tips for parents on discussing childhood obesity and treatment options with their child's pediatrician.

We LOVE to celebrate our patients when they achieve great things...today we get to celebrate one of our very own employees...Karen has been working hard to reclaim her health and when our patients lose their first 10% of their total body weight, we make sure they know it's a big deal and send them home with some 'brag swag!' Karen is 12 weeks out since her Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty and has lost 14% of her body weight!! Karen, we are so proud of your hard work and dedication to becoming a stronger, healthier version of the woman we all love! Keep crushing those goals!

It’s not uncommon for patients to wonder if I practice what I preach. When it comes to meal prep, I’m not perfect but I do consistently make an effort. This week my oldest requested a camping trip for his birthday, so I didn’t have time to fully plan out each meal. However, I find that when I have my fruits and veggies prepped for the week, making kids’ lunches in the morning (I have 3 kiddos who all have different tastes 🤪) and even making dinner is much simpler. Today’s prepping took me a total of 1 hour and 35 minutes while I watched a new series on Apple TV. Lunches for the kiddos will be yogurt or cottage cheese or leftover protein plus the fruits and veggies I’ve prepped. Dinners will be whatever protein I pull from the freezer the night before plus my prepped items +/- a whole grain like microwave rice or quinoa.
