Two Epiphany Restorative Yoga classes are coming; Jan. 4 (full but you can add into wait list), Jan. 8 - 4 spots are open. (Each class runs from 7-8:15 pm and your $30 payment through Venmo serves as your registration.)

💫 At least twice monthly I offer Restorative Yoga classes for women that are designed for deep nervous system support. Reach out to me if you’d like to attend or bring your own private group.

A bit about the Epiohany class- There is a custom, rooted in Ireland, of celebrating Epiphany (January 6, which brings the Christmas season to a close) as Women's Christmas, called Nollaig na mBan in Irish. It originated as a day when the women, who often carried the domestic responsibilities all year, took Epiphany Day as an occasion to celebrate together at the end of the holidays, leaving hearth and home to the men for a few hours. This mini-retreat is offered in that spirit. Contemplative readings and a restorative sequence will be offered in an invitation to rest, to reflect, to consider where you are in your unfolding path. At the threshold of this year, this is a time for you to consider how you want the path through this year to look. Mindful of those Wise Ones who traveled to welcome the Christ child, we will turn our attention toward questions about our own journey. As we look at the landscape of our life, where and how do we want to travel through this year? What distinctive gift are you called to offer, that no one else can.

Happy Solstice, friends. 🕯️

On this winter solstice, this blessing is for you, again and always, or for someone you love. Because for so many folks, it has been a year of very long nights. So I am leaving this on your doorstep, tucked beneath a thermos of hot cocoa and a tin of your favorite cookies. And to friends in the Southern Hemisphere, blessings of the summer solstice to you! Near and far, I am wildly grateful for you.

BLESSING FOR THE LONGEST NIGHT

All throughout these months,
as the shadows
have lengthened,
this blessing has been
gathering itself,
making ready,
preparing for
this night.

It has practiced
walking in the dark,
traveling with
its eyes closed,
feeling its way
by memory,
by touch,
by the pull of the moon
even as it wanes.

So believe me
when I tell you
this blessing will
reach you,
even if you
have not light enough
to read it;
it will find you,
even though you cannot
see it coming.

You will know
the moment of its
arriving
by your release
of the breath
you have held
so long;
a loosening
of the clenching
in your hands,
of the clutch
around your heart;
a thinning
of the darkness
that had drawn itself
around you.

This blessing
does not mean
to take the night away,
but it knows
its hidden roads,
knows the resting spots
along the path,
knows what it means
to travel
in the company
of a friend.

So when
this blessing comes,
take its hand.
Get up.
Set out on the road
you cannot see.

This is the night
when you can trust
that any direction
you go,
you will be walking
toward the dawn.

Breathing exercises are powerful tools that help students calm their body and reset their mind. These strategies teach kids how to slow their breathing, release tension, and feel more in control during stressful moments. With regular practice, these techniques support emotional regulation and create a calmer learning environment.

A Private Studio - Doing Things A Little Differently

Because I believe strongly that yoga is for every body and because I believe a smaller student to teacher ratio is best so I can truly know my students and they can know me, I offer you a different model of yoga classes. In its early days yoga was offered teacher to student in the teacher’s home and I have found this model to foster so much comfort and connection in my student community. Sure, I still teach in studios, businesses and churches but if you are seeking a regular practice with one of the amazing communities of women who gather with me here, please reach out via message and I’ll do my best to work you in to an ongoing class or upcoming workshop. Maybe your preference is for private yoga sessions for you or you and a small group, that is available also. I’m grateful for your interest.
