We can all probably relate to moments when we lose sight of the reasons we went into the dental field in the first place and, at times, can get caught up

Was truly an honor today to have the chance to provide care for 2 nursing home facilities. You know that moment when you feel you are doing exactly what you’re meant to be doing? That moment for me today was when I met a resident named John. With no family in the area, he found himself having a stroke, off to the hospital and next to the nursing home for over a year now. Everyone deserves an advocate. Everyone deserves a clean mouth free of infection and at the minimum, free of debris. Sometimes it makes my heart ache but then I remind myself, there’s no time for that. Get busy and make a difference. Shout out to Joshua for being the captain today! ♥️

Let's keep at it! Medicare’s lack of an oral health benefit means that two-thirds of all enrollees – more than 37 million Americans – do not have oral health coverage. Adding oral health coverage to Medicare Part B is a commonsense solution to ensure Medicare enrollees have access to oral health care – a critical component of overall health. ADHA is calling on all dental hygienists to contact their Members of Congress and urge them to strengthen Medicare by adding oral health coverage to Medicare. bit.ly/ADHAvoice

As dental professionals, we play a critical role in the management of our patients oral and systemic health.

When it comes to treating Diabetic patients, Management of the diabetic patient in the dental office should include:

Prepare the dental team for diabetic medical emergencies
Consultation with primary care provider
Identify level and consistency of diabetic control
Provide patient education
Reinforce regular diet and medication regimen before and after dental appointments
Monitor vasoconstrictors that disrupt blood glucose levels in poorly controlled insulin-dependent diabetic patients
Consideration should be given to delaying treatment in those patients with poorly controlled diabetes

Instead of trying to control pathogens after they've been aerosolized, why not destroy them before they ever leave the patient's mouth?

Review the research connecting these two destructive conditions and how hygienists can integrate it into their daily practice.

I believe in these guys. If you’re a patient of mine, this is who I refer you to if I’m concerned you may have Sleep Apnea. For my dental friends, if you’re thinking about learning more this is where you start. It’s going on over 20 years that I’ve trusted them. We can’t miss identifying the signs and symptoms of Sleep Apnea.

The struggle is real when we have braces! But small tweaks in care along the way is all we need. Saw this cutie a few weeks ago and I am certain he’s gonna master the use of a water p*k! Take a look at how the body responds to bacteria so you too can know what to look for. What I’m looking for is any puffiness or inflammation in the gums. When you or your kiddo are in braces, its best to go see your hygienist 3-4 times a year to reach the places braces make it so difficult to reach. Stay flossy♥️
