There’s a word clinicians use when someone doesn’t respond the way the treatment plan expects: resistant. And the short-hand translation of that is: “You’re the reason you’re not getting better.”

But here’s the reality: what gets labeled resistance is often self-protection.ïżœ
Self-sabotage isn’t a lack of willpower, it’s a part of us doing something necessary to survive.

And when we become aware of this, we are presented with a beautiful opportunity to uncover the deeper unmet needs in our system.

Our parts “live” in different states of the nervous system: some alert, some withdrawn, some calm and connected.

Awareness is the first step toward understanding what they’re trying to do and meeting them with curiosity and care.

Where are your parts “living” today? 💭

This week I'm focusing on how receiving a diagnosis isn't always the full story. This IFS (Internal Family Systems) guided practice aims to help you gently separate from a mental or physical health label and to start to listen to the stories behind them.

Regulation isn’t always healing.
Sometimes it’s just survival in disguise.
Learn the difference—your parts will thank you.

Save this to come back to later.

When emotions feel overwhelming or out of proportion to what triggered them, it’s often a sign that a younger part of you is carrying past pain.

These parts can flood the system quickly, leading to what we call “emotional dysregulation.”

But moments like this aren’t just breakdowns—they’re invitations.
ïżœOpportunities to connect with the parts of you that are still hurting, and begin the real work of healing.

What if our inner critics aren’t cruel
 but protective?

What if instead of silencing them—we listened with compassion?

I created a short guided practice to help you begin shifting your relationship with these inside critical voices.

Find yourself in a quiet, undisturbed place for about 4 minutes to get started.

Anxiety, overwhelm, shutdown?

It’s not a “disorder” and you don’t need a diagnosis—it’s your nervous system stuck in a survival loop.

The first step to getting unstuck? Awareness.

✹ Learn to map your nervous system and start reshaping your patterns—gently, from the inside out.

👀 ZOOM-IN RECOMMENDED 👀

One day recently I found an abundance of these beautifully colored shells just everywhere on the beach. 🌊

I quickly found myself lost in the experience of scanning all of them closely to find the most vibrant and elegantly shaded shells.

A (young) part of me really wanted to take them all home. Another (manager) part of me wanted to make sure I didn’t take too many, and so started to make up rules for which ones I could take.

I wonder what would have happened if my manager part hadn’t inserted itself? What is it afraid would happen if it stopped making up rules and policing the other parts?

I’ll have to explore this in my next session with my IFS practitioner. 🧐
