PAWSitive Animal Massage “Until one has loved an animal, a part of one’s soul remains unawakened.” -Anatole France

Milo brought his brother Bandit for his first time in the Spa. The boys both enjoyed a full spa day! Bandit did such an amazing job, especially learning that the blow dryer isn’t too bad! I sat on the table with him and he put his little head in my apron for the first few minutes. Then he relaxed and actually began to enjoy the warm air.
Such sweet boys!

These are not my puppy dogs, but I love them no differently!

Duffy has made a miraculous recovery from his traumatic injury resulting in major surgery! He will be 14 this year and since the surgery, mom says he is more like a puppy now than he has been in years!

Gus Gus is just a giant, sweetheart who LOVES touch. His eyes smile and say, “thank you. I love you.”

It’s always such a pleasure to spend time with these two! Both boys melted into the floor in full relaxation.

Little Louie came in for a visit today! Isn’t he adorable?

Louie lives with Intervertebral Disc Disease.

Massage can be a lifesaver for dogs with Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD). It helps reduce muscle spasms, reduce inflammation, eases pain, improves nutrient and oxygen rich blood flow to injured tissues, aids in lymphatic drainage, and prevents muscle wasting during crate rest. It also helps relax tension in the back, neck, and shoulders caused by compensating for limited mobility.

Was your pet diagnosed with Degenerative Disc Disease? Or IVDD? With regular massage, you can greatly improve their quality of life! The best part? I can teach you how YOU can continue on your own at home!

Why massage your dogs ears?

• The ear area is packed with nerve endings, including areas connected to the vagus nerve.
• Massages trigger a rush of endorphins and oxytocin, making the dog feel safe, relaxed, and happy.
• There are roughly 13 different muscles in each ear.
• Massaging them helps release tension not only in the ears but also in the scalp, neck, and overall body.
• Regular, gentle ear rubs act as a diagnostic tool, helping to identify signs of infection.
• It is a gentle, affectionate gesture that communicates care, allowing you to strengthen your connection.
• Massaging a dog’s ears regularly helps them get used to having them touched, making future cleaning or veterinary exams much easier.
• Use gentle, slow, circular strokes to relax your nervous dog.
• If your dog whines, pulls away, or seems to be in pain, stop immediately, as this could indicate an ear infection.

Dorian is going to make his new furrever family so happy. Let me just say this boy is a lover. He LOVES touch. Today was his first massage, and he relaxed into it quickly. He had been fixed the previous day so we focused on supporting his immune system as well as stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system to encourage rest, homeostasis, and relaxation.

You will fall in love with his loving demeanor. The toughest part of my job is not bringing home each and every one of these sweeties. This boy has a way of looking at you, smiling and saying thank you with those kind eyes.

If you decide you have room in your heart and home for sweet Dorian, please reach out to me. I’d love to gift you and him a short massage session where I can teach you a few massage techniques to help the two of you create a beautiful new bond.

Thank you for your love of animals!

Bubba came in to see me after injuring his left front limb from jumping off the couch. His dew claw had bruising (was not apparent upon arrival as his injury was over the weekend) and he was not putting much weight on that limb. He had heat in his paw and up into his shoulder.

Did you know there are 5 muscles that attach to the dew claw? And those muscles are there to help protect the limb from torque with each step/landing. Those little guys actually serve a purpose!

Today we focused on supporting his immune system to aide in the tissue repair process as well as working on his compensatory muscles that have been overworking to offset the weight from the affected limb. His bilateral medial and superficial glut were very tight, more so on his right side. His neck muscles were very tight. He had spasming in hindlimb muscles that responded quickly to compression techniques.

We will see each other again tomorrow for a bath and a recheck of his progress.
