Gary Tate is NAMI Greater Longview’s Program Coordinator. Gary retired in 2024 after 45 years of various positions leading up to Global Operations Manager for a world wide energy company. He loves the outdoors and spends his free time fishing and hunting. Ten years ago his son experienced his first major psychotic break. He and his wife, Yvonne, had no experience with mental illness and did not understand what was happening. As they began exploring resources, they learned about NAMI. They decided to attend a NAMI Family Support Group and it was there they learned they were not alone. The other group members were compassionate, supportive and they shared their experiences. They received helpful information from the group and learned of NAMI’s Family-to-Family class. This class provided them with valuable information that helped with understanding their son’s mental illness. They have recently completed training and received certification to begin teaching Family-to-Family in order to help others who are struggling with having loved ones with serious mental illness.

🍁 Fall Check-In: How Are You, Really? 🍂

As the leaves begin to change, it's a good time to pause and check in—with yourself and those around you.

Autumn can be a season of beauty, but also of transition. Shorter days, cooler nights, and the hustle of life can bring new challenges for our mental well-being.

🧠 This is your gentle reminder:

It’s okay to slow down.

It’s okay to not feel okay.

And it’s always okay to ask for help.

💬 Take a moment today to ask yourself:
"How am I really doing?"

If you’re struggling or just need someone to talk to, we're here. You're not alone—our community is here to support you through every season.

🍁 Let’s take care of our minds the way we bundle up for the cold: with intention, warmth, and kindness.

One critical skill in the fight against misinformation is understanding how confirmation bias can make us vulnerable to believing things that aren't true.
