Did you know that healing from past wounds is not just about making sure they don't come back again, or even that those traumas are healed, but it can affect every part of your being?

And learning to create a consistent sense of safety, calm, and activating the "relaxation response" helps your entire system heal and thrive in the best way possible.

A huge component of the PolyVagal theory is about how the felt sense of safety in our bodies actually transforms the physical, mental and emotional health and well-being that we experience.

Imagine what would happen if you felt safe, calm, and truly at peace in situations you didn't before.

It's not just a good feeling.

Your body would thank you by healing,
your heart would thank you by releasing positive emotions throughout your being,
and your brain would thank you by focusing on empowering you to do things you love to do.

It is possible! Healing is possible.

7 Ways to Increase Vagal Tone 💃🕺

The vagus nerve helps regulate everything from heart rate to gut motility to inflammation to mood. When you increase your vagal tone, you send a signal of safety to all of your organs so they can function at their best.

Here are some science backed ways to tone the vagus nerve:

▪️ Deep Breathing
▪️ Meditation or Prayer
▪️ Mindful Movement & Mobility work
▪️ Massage or MyoFascial Release (SMR)
▪️ Exercise and Joyful Movement
▪️ Cold Water Plunge
▪️ Healing Nutrition

All of these work because the vagus nerve communicates in both directions—both to and from the brain. These practices send signals to the brain that increase activity of the vagus nerve.

That means no more “fight or flight” and a lot more “rest and digest.”

One simple breathing exercise is the 4-7-8 method.
To do this exercise, find a quiet spot where you will not be disturbed. Then:
▪️ Breathe in for a count of 4.
▪️ Hold your breath for a count of 7.
▪️ Exhale for a count of 8.
▪️ Repeat for at least 3-4 times.

Give it a shot. It’s easy. It’s free. And it’ll help reset your system very quickly.

Health doesn’t have to be hard.

Struggling with chronic pain or fatigue?
Your body is speaking to you, and it's time to listen.
I didn't listen for so long and kept trying to "push through"... and that took a long journey of recovery.

But as I started listening, paying attention, and learning the tools necessary to heal, so many incredible things began to take place.

Through the use of things like breathwork, functional movement, EFT, and intentional awareness, we can unlock the body's innate healing potential and restore balance from the inside out. 🌱💪

Just a friendly reminder to keep going just 1 step at a time. It's been amazing to me that when we take small steps, no matter where we are, incredible shifts and changes take place.

When I first started my health journey, I had to re-start over from scratch ... from zero ... and small steps led me to running long distance trails for fun! From deep fatigue and body shut down to joy, healing, and energy.

You can do it to! Cheering you on :)

Stress Stoppers 👉👉

You know that moment when your heart races, your muscles tense, your mind checks out, and everything in your body just wants to escape wherever you are?

It’s our acute stress response, and we call it “fight or flight.”

When I notice this happening (the first step is awareness!), here are some things I do:

💡 Notice my thoughts or emotions.
☀️ Reframe negative thoughts to the positive.
👣 Put my feet to the earth to feel grounded.
🌬️ Take some deep breaths.
⛰️Change my location.
💃 Move my body (dance, shake, jump, walk).

None of this is easy.

It takes practice.

But learning to stop stress in its tracks is one of the best things you can do for your current health and your future self.

Which of these ideas do you like best?

Did you know that we actually need stress in order to grow? I love this quote because it gives such a great layout of the fact that our goal is not to avoid or even reduce stressors, but rather to learn how to navigate it so that we can actually grow.

Here are 2 main things that we need to navigate stress:
1. Reset & Rejuvenation times
2. Resilience building

In what ways have you learned to not just navigate stress, but to Reset and build Resilience?

When we take time to intentionally Reset & Rejuvenate, we allow our bodies & minds to actually heal and build the growth that the stress put on us.

But we also need to both incorporate Resilience tools and build it in the face of stress.
What does that look like?

Well things like strength training, mindset work, breath holds, etc can all intentionally build resilience.

While incorporating EFT, counseling, forms of breathwork, etc can all help us in the moments of stress to navigate it well.

If we are in high stress seasons, we have to learn how to build both the skills of Resetting & Resilience.

What tools do you find most helpful?
What's worked for you?

Are you tired of feeling exhausted, drained, and overwhelmed by the constant hustle and bustle? It's time to take charge of your energy levels and beat that burnout 😤💥

Introducing our top tips to overcome fatigue, boost your energy, and build resilience to stress. 🌟✨

🔋 Tip #1: Prioritize Self-Care: Remember, you can't pour from an empty cup. Take time each day to engage in activities that nourish your mind, body, and soul.

⏰ Tip #2: Get Quality Sleep: Sleep is your body's ultimate energy booster and stress reducer. Create a conducive sleep environment, establish a consistent bedtime routine, and ensure you're getting enough deep sleep.

💆 Tip #3: Manage Stress Effectively: Stress can drain your energy like nothing else. Find healthy outlets to release stress, such as deep breathing exercises, meditation, etc. By tackling stress head-on, you'll build your resilience and regain control of your energy.

🥦 Tip #4: Fuel Your Body Right: Balanced nutrition plays a significant role in maintaining high energy levels. Opt for nourishing whole foods, while minimizing refined sugars and processed foods. Small dietary changes can make a big impact on your energy levels and resilience.

💃 Tip #5: Embrace Restorative Breaks: Don't forget to schedule short and rejuvenating breaks throughout your day. Step away from your desk, enjoy a walk in nature, and practice shifting your breathing. Taking breaks allows your mind and body to recharge, boosting your productivity when you need it most.

🌟 Ready to kiss fatigue goodbye, boost your energy levels, and build resilience like never before? It's time to life to the fullest! 🌈💪

✨ Together, we'll conquer fatigue and embrace a vibrant, empowered life. 💥💫

Hey there! I've not quite been able to post much as of late, but I haven't stopped recording the podcasts. So, I'm posting the latest series of 3 that I've done integrating stress and nutrition.

When I was in the height of my healing journey, my Functional doc discovered that, while I was eating highly nutrient-rich foods and fiercely abstaining from inflammatory ones, I wasn't absorbing the nutrients from the foods I ate.

You can imagine how discouraging that was. Here I was focusing with all of my might so that I could get better and heal.

And at that moment in time, I wasn't in a stress-state anymore.
I was truly doing what I thought was resting.
In fact, I couldn't work anymore.
But I was experiencing the effects of a few years of intense stress on my body.

What unfolded was many years of research, trials, and errors, and digging deeper and deeper into the effects of stress on our bodies.

Over time, I learned that nutrition was only one part of the stress resilience and healing journey. But if we don't integrate healing practices, our body doesn't always have a place for that stress to go. And it begins to break down in our system.

Researchers now say that highly stressed individuals actually have a harder time utilizing the foods they eat. There was a study conducted specifically regarding caregivers and how the stress they endure affects their bodies’ ability to process the foods they eat. And guess what? They found that those under extreme stress didn’t handle junk food as well – it led to larger waistlines and insulin insensitivity.

I recently did 3 podcasts on this topic:
• How Stress Causes Your Body to Use Food Differently—Ep 42
• Plant Based Nutrition for Stress & Resilience—Ep 41
• Breaking the Stress Cycle with Nutrition—Ep 40

Tune in to the latest episode to find out more and for a couple of simple practices you can begin to implement today!

Here's to breaking the stress cycle and embracing a healthier, more balanced life!
