We have so much data on how fasting is really good for you. But some of you have been asking a question-what are the different types of fasting? Here's a basic understanding of the three main types in the intermittent fasting category. The first one is time-restricted feeding (TRF or TRE). Very simply, you have a daily eating window of roughly about six to 10 hours, and the rest of the time is fasting. During fasting, you are not to consume anything with calories in there. So water would be a great example. The next one is modified fasting. The classic example is the five and two method. Here you fast on two non-consecutive days every single week. So maybe eat regularly for two or three days, fast one day and then repeat. Lastly, there's the alternate day fasting where you eat normally for one day fast for another.

There's so much talk out there about healthy eating. And by now everybody has heard fruits, vegetables, cutting out salt is good for you. But the question is, do people follow it? The answer is no. If you look at the average American, they eat only about one to one and a half cups of vegetables per day. Recommendation: two to three cups a day. Fruit-wise, they only eat about less than a cup of food a day. Once again, recommendation two to three cups a day. How about sodium? Typical American gets over 3500 milligrams of sodium per day. Recommendation-less than 2300. And what about sugar? The typical American gets 13% of their calories from added sugars. Recommendation-less than 10%. Bottom line: eat lots of whole foods, lots of fruits and vegetables, and cut down on added sugars.

Nelson Campbell is the founder of the nonprofit PlantPure Communities (PPC) and the PlantPure business. He also directed and wrote PlantPure Nation, a film that examines the political and economic factors that have suppressed information on the benefits of plant-based nutrition, while making the connections of this idea to medical practice, farming, food deserts, and climate change. PPC, the nonprofit Nelson founded, supports a network of local groups called โ€œPods,โ€ now involving over 250,000 people. PPC is also coordinating an international coalition of health and environmental groups to raise public awareness of the food-climate connection, and is launching a โ€˜moonshotโ€™ project to bring nutrition education and affordable plant-based foods into underserved communities. In addition to his nonprofit work, Nelson founded the PlantPure business, which is focused on food, education and a new web-based social action platform. What's the healthy plate model, and how can it help you to live a healthier life? Look at your plate in three sections. First, 50% of your plate should be filled with fruits and vegetables. Specifically, two-thirds should be vegetables, and one-third should be fruit. Then, for the remaining 50% of the plate, fill up 25% with healthy proteins: things like tofu beans, lentils are excellent sources, and then the remainder 25% fill it up with whole grains. What can the Adventist study teach us about our risk of death? This was a large study with over 73,000 people and a follow-up of more than five years. If you compare Vegetarians to non-vegetarians, it turns out that the risk of dying for vegetarians was 12% lower. But that risk doesn't stop there. If you were looking at dying from kidney disease, remember, kidney disease is devastating - The five-year risk of dying is 50%. But here's a remarkable fact: If you were vegetarian compared to non-vegetarians, your risk of dying from kidney disease was lowered by 52%. So there you go, another great reason to shift towards more plants for better health, a better planet, and a better you!

Five heart-healthy tips you can start doing right now. Number one: aim for sleeping seven to 9 hours. In a large study looking at adults over 45, people sleeping less than 6 hours a night had twice the risk of heart attack or stroke than those who slept more.
Number two: move more. In another large study, they found that the people who sat around the most had a higher risk of 147% increased risk in heart disease events and a 90% increased risk of death.
Number three: Floss. Go ahead and make sure that you're flossing those teeth. Not just for healthy gums, healthy teeth, bright smile, but also to protect your heart and blood vessels. The bacteria in your mouth can get into your gums, get into the bloodstream and cause inflammation.
Number four: stop smoking and avoid secondhand smoke.
And last but not least, number five, aim for healthy blood pressure. What's normal? Less than 120 over 80. There you have it.

Should you be drinking coffee? Well, it turns out absolutely yes. In fact, what the research shows is three to four cups a day is ideal, and it doesn't matter if it's caffeinated or decaffeinated. And here's a fun fact. Did you know that coffee was initially discovered in the 9th century by this goat herder quality? Apparently, the goats were eating the coffee beans at getting all hyped up and excited. And that's how coffee ended up being discovered. That's probably a myth.
