IT’S RACE WEEK!

It started on January 1st during a drunken New Year’s night 🥴, signing up for my first and longest race, 100 miles 😧 through the Arizona desert 🏜️ along with other crazies.

Training has primarily been, being consistent, adding miles, addressing injuries, racing, hitting the weights, having tons of fun in the mountains, and figuring out what/how/when to eat/hydrate during these long arduous races. It takes a !

Have I figured it out? NOPE! Am injury free? NOPE! Have I been running, climbing, and having fun? YOU BET YA!!!!

This Saturday I toe the line with my teammates .time running and running
for the Halloween-themed race !!!!

Will our costumes hold up the entire race? Stay tuned to see! 👀

IT’S RACE TIME! We have a goal, finish and have fun! The hurt is coming, but we came for it! Repping at the start because it’s the community where we all found each other and finishing because it’s what we’ve built to get us here.

2 back to back marathons! 52.6 miles! LET’S GO!!!

This was a big week for training! In 3 weeks ~20 of my teammates will roll into Hatch, UT for the Bryce Ultra Marathon. I’ll tackle my first 50 miler (52.4mi actually 😝)! For many, this will be their first Ultra, for others, a return back where the elevation (7000ft) and terrain ⛰ proved to be a major challenge.

This training block was a little different. Instead of building to high miles week after week (see last pic build to LA Marathon-March), I took a step-wise approach, letting myself rest, deal with injuries, and added a swim 🏊🏻‍♂️ a bike ride 🚴 and a day of weight training 🏋🏽‍♀️ to the mix.

This week was packed with 15,000ft of climbing, highest amount of running uphill I’ve done in a week, ever! Do I feel ready? Heck no 👎🏼! But trust the process: Build, taper, race, recover, repeat!

One more week left of the routine, and then MFBRYCE!!! LET’S GO!!!

Running at night is always great, but being out on the trails under a full moon 🌕 is amazing! This time the crazies take it to to attempt the February challenge! A grueling 2.9mile uphill segment from the Western entrance of Griffith park to Mt. Hollywood via the Observatory. Love the as we push each other beyond our comfort zone to achieve great things!

Rim2Rim2Rim (aka R3) - Grand Canyon

Officially the hardest, craziest, and most out of this world thing I’ve experienced…so far!

The GC R3 is a 53mile trek with over 12k ft elevation gain (mostly at the walls of the canyon) = 2 marathons in 1 day! The journey starts down South Kaibab trail in the South Rim to the Colorado River though Phantom Ranch to North Kaibab up to the north rim, just to turn around and do it again, finishing up the Bright Angel Trail. For “simplicity” we parked at BA trailhead and ran 5 miles extra along the South Rim Trail to have the cars ready at the end. 😝

Our team of took anywhere between 13 (insane) and 23 hours of trail running and hiking. A long and epic endurance run for the books.

My first 50miler was without a doubt HARD! I tried turning back at mile 22 before reaching the North Rim. My mind was made up, I had enough energy left to do the 22 trek back and call it a DNF (did not finish). But my teammates gave me a pep talk and that pumped me up to finish the last 4 miles to the top…of the first half! 😬

The way back was just as difficult, darkness setting upon us🌅 , and seeing the last of the hikers finishing up while we were ready to do it all over again.

23 hours later and R3 is in the books! The Grand Canyon is even more GRAND from the base. Highly recommend to embark in this journey, maybe not in one day 😂 but in multiple days.

Grateful my friends, my adventure family, always looking out for each other to push ourselves to our limits in a supported and safe manner, the silliness is included…what’s next?

Next hike/trail run: Mt. Wilson Halloween Run 10/30 👻 🎃
