Forest Lawn Museum is proud to present, "Shaping Gravity: Abstract Art Beyond the Picture Plane." The exhibition features the work of 7 contemporary artists: Jen Stark, Molly Larkey, Shane Guffogg, Michelle Jane Lee, Christine Nguyen, Rema Ghuloum, and Sara Ippolito. "Shaping Gravity" includes sculpture, painting, augmented reality, and interactive video projection with artworks ranging from vibrant and kaleidoscopic to serene and meditative. The exhibition is open from Oct 19-March 10.

Join Forest Lawn Museum on October 19 from 5-7 PM for the opening of "Shaping Gravity." The opening reception will include complimentary drinks and hors d’oeuvres, live music, and remarks from the curator. The event is free and open to the public. Join Forest Lawn Museum on Saturday, September 9, from 5-7 PM for the world premiere of the all-new presentation at the Hall of Crucifixion-Resurrection. The grand opening event will feature a screening of the 18-minute audiovisual program, which includes a new video and narration that tells the history of two colossal paintings and the unique building that Forest Lawn created to house them. The evening also includes a public Q&A with the Director of Forest Lawn Museum, tours of the museum, live music, and complimentary drinks and hors d’oeuvres.

Located next to Forest Lawn Museum, the Hall of Crucifixion-Resurrection showcases the Crucifixion (195 ft. x 45 ft.), which is the largest painting in the Western United States. It was painted by Polish artist Jan Styka in the 1890s. The building also houses the Resurrection (70 ft. x 51 ft.), which was painted by American artist Robert Clark in 1965.

Today is the 157th celebration of the emancipation of the last remaining enslaved African Americans in the United States. Commonly referred to as "Juneteenth", it is recognized as a federal holiday as of 2021. Traditions include reading the Emancipation Proclamation and events celebrating the African-American culture.
