The one line that hit the hardest these days was: “Guns have more rights then women in the US.”
Reach out, if you feel the need to talk. These are upsetting times.

Menstruation and relationships

Have you noticed that throughout the month you feel different? About yourself, others, and how you want to interact with other people? On some days you really don’t feel like seeing anyone, while on others you’re a social butterfly.

This is pretty normal and every person that is having a menstrual cycle can probably relate to that.

It’s your hormones talking!
During a rise of estrogen after our period until ovulation, you usually feel like you can conquer the world right? You’re chatty, creative, and much more outgoing.
Use this energy to get things done, meet your friends, and do some heavier exercise.

After your ovulation, your estrogen levels should be sinking and progesterone is rising. This makes a big transformation and turns your focus inwards to get prepared for the next period.

During this time of the month, it’s better to avoid taking on new projects as your mood and energy level might not match the needed focus and you can be left frustrated bc you can’t live up to your expectations.
Do yoga, go for a walk, and meditate to relax your mind, and get rid of tensions.

Remember: whatever feels best for you! But keep in mind how your seasons affect those around you!

The importance of having a period!

Society and the pharmaceutical industry have been trying hard over the past decades to convince us that our menstruation is something inconvenient.

A reoccurring disturbance of our life.

They tried to sell us products that would supposedly help us to combat this problem!
The idea is to eliminate the bleeding itself.

But why do we think this is a terrible idea?

First of all, in order to stop your body from shedding its uterus lining aka having your period, you have to take synthetic hormones - synthetic estrogen and progestin to be precise. It is no longer a secret that those can cause blood clots, strokes, breast cancer, and other possibly life-threatening conditions.

Secondly, if you think about it without having any medical knowledge: What happens during your menstruation?
Blood is flowing from your uterus through your cervix and va**na. Thanks to its antibacterial and antiviral effects it gets rid of anything that could cause an infection of your reproductive system. A free and natural monthly cleansing ritual of our body so to say.

Like always in life, trying to shift your perspective can help you see something in a completely different way and may change your attitude towards it!

Usually, women tend to have low estrogen levels after giving birth and during perimenopause. Still, there are many women that do not fall into these categories and also suffer from it.
Whether you experience night sweats, va**nal dryness, painful s*x or frequent UTIs - low estrogen levels might be the cause!
You can simply ask your doctor to get a check if you’re not sure!

If you feel like your menstrual cycle is off, then seed cycling could be just right for you. The most important thing is to know where you’re at within your cycle. You have different needs in every half - the first half (also called the follicular phase) is counted from the first day your menstruation (bleeding) starts until ovulation (usually around day 14 of your cycle). The second half begins with ovulation and lasts until your next period begins (this is called the luteal phase).
Of course, the days can vary due to different cycle lengths. Ovulation occurs in the middle of your menstrual cycle, so if you have a 28-day-long cycle on day 14, a 30-day-long cycle on day 15, etc.

Seed cycling in your follicular phase (day 1 until day 14)

Take every day 2-4 tbsp of pumpkin seeds and flax seeds. You can mix it in a smoothie, crumble it over salad, sprinkle them in a soup or just eat it without anything. Pumpkin seeds are rich in zinc, which is necessary for progesterone production which you will need for your second half.

Seed cycling in your luteal phase (day 15 until next period)

Eat every day 2-4 tbsp of sesame and sunflower seeds. Both help you increase progesterone levels. Sesame is very rich in zinc and calcium, and the sunflower seeds contain vitamin E and selenium.

When I was younger, adults mostly told me that dandelion is a w**d that is hard to be controlled, and that's why I shouldn't blow the fluffy flower bud. Little did I know...

Dandelion is a good source of the prebiotic fiber named inulin which reduces constipation and promotes a healthy digestive system.

Its very effective against acne as it reduces skin inflammation and irritation. It increases hydration and collagen production. Traditionally the root is used to stimulate and detoxify the liver, which helps promote estrogen metabolism during PMS and also combats water retention - the cause for weight gain before the period.

Did you know these facts about dandelions?

3 reasons why calcium is 𝚊𝚗 𝚎𝚡𝚌𝚎𝚕𝚕𝚎𝚗𝚝 𝚜𝚞𝚙𝚙𝚕𝚎𝚖𝚎𝚗𝚝 for women

1) It lowers the risk of developing conditions involving high blood pressure during pregnancy

2) Treatment with calcium supplements is an effective method for reducing mood disorders during PMS (2017, Shobeiri, Ezzati Araste, Ebrahimi, Jenabi and Nazari)

3) Calcium can reduce water retention, food cravings, and pain during the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle in women with premenstrual syndrome.

If that doesn't sound like the remedy of choice, right?

Did you ever experience this reaction?

There is a long history of period taboos in every corner of the world. Periods were/and are still associated with dirt, disgust, shame, and even fear in many places. Additionally, the impact of religious opinions and teachings can be quite influential. Many religions like Islam, Christianity, Judaism, and Hinduism refer to the menstruating woman as "unclean." Sometimes it goes so far, that they have to segregate themselves during their period.

YES! Even today, in some communities, women are banished to sheds for the time of their period because of so-called “impurity.”

Mind blowing, right?!

We say it is definitely about time to stop shaming women for the most natural thing on earth and the source of all human life.

In ancient times, most cultures respected women's cycle and cherished it. But patriarchy demolished this idea since women were becoming too "powerful."
Something holy and sacred turned into something "dirty."

Lavender is not only a plant that smells and looks incredible; 𝐢𝐭 𝐚𝐥𝐬𝐨 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐢-𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐥𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬.

Lavender oil can help reduce period cramps and menstrual bleeding by soothing the prostaglandins that mediate pain and uterine contractions.

In a 2009 study in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, researchers discovered that "linalool" in lavender's fragrance induces calm by reducing the activity of 109 genes that become overactive in stressful situations.

1) It helps to relieve cramps! Magnesium is also known as nature's relaxant. It relaxes the muscles of the uterus and reduces prostaglandin, which causes period pain.

2) It aids in combating migraines

3) It has anti-inflammatory characteristics.

Another study with data from around 8800 people showed that those with the lowest magnesium intake had a 22% greater risk of depression. Oops, those were 4 reasons ;-)

One thing to add is that women suffering from diarrhea during their period might want to stay away from magnesium, which could enhance it even more. On the other hand, those plagued with constipation probably benefit from it!

Let's repeat this: painful periods are NOT NORMAL.

And if you don't believe us, then you may trust the words of Dr. John Guillebaud, a professor of reproductive health who compared the pain of menstrual cramps to the pain of having a heart attack. Do you really believe that we are supposed to go to work or to accomplish our daily life goals when experiencing this kind of pain?

Share your most painful period stories and what you still managed to do while suffering in silence in the comments.
