🌷Spring Equinox 🌷

Yesterday in teen yoga we took a trip into the backyard to gather plants for our spring equinox altar. Afterwards, we discussed all things spring including what seeds they felt like they were beginning to plant in their lives and wrote them down to remember to keep nourish those seeds.

I hope you all had a lovely Spring Equinox - it’s not too late to think about what seeds your planting and what you would like to nourish this season!

Lotus Littles Spring Series alert at !

This will be our last kids series for a minute as we’ll be taking a break for the summer. ☀️🌊🏔️

Do you have a child between the ages of 5-9? Sign them up for our 8-week yoga series where they will move their body, learn yoga songs, and participate in fun yoga arts and crafts! (I mean, I don’t know why adult classes don’t include this all!)

As part of my 300 hour yoga teacher training at , I put together a 6 week yoga series for teens in residential treatment for eating disorders. Those who struggle with eating disorders often have a severe disconnection to their body, so one of my main priorities was to see if we could increase the connection to their bodies.

To track any changes, each teen completed a pre and post survey each session where they were asked:
On a scale from 1-5 (1 being the least connected 5 being the most connect) how connected do you feel to your body?

And wow - the results from just 6 weeks of yoga are pretty incredible. This might be my favorite graph I’ve had the pleasure of inputting data into to create. Yoga works ya’ll!!!

The best part of teaching yoga to little ones is being able to combine fun games and arts & crafts to make the lessons of yoga available to all ages!

During our first class we made name tags and included the Om symbol while learning all about the sound of the universe. 🕉️

Last night I threw it back to an elementary art project with a group of teens to discuss the basics of our respiratory system and exactly why breath work makes a difference.

There are a myriad of benefits to breath work, but in a simplified anatomical explanation, 70% of our oxygen receptors, alveoli, are located at the bottom of our lungs. When we practice diaphragmatic breathing, we are moving the breath past shallow chest breathing, and bringing it all the way to the bottom of our lungs where we can have the most absorption of oxygen. By practicing diaphragmatic breathing, we are increasing the amount of oxygen in our body as well as
increasing our prana (energy/life force).
