Traditional medicine is outdated. Dealing with chronic pain and chronic issues can't be solved with pills and a fifteen minute appointment with your doctor. It's a process and it involves an integrated approach to dealing with the issues at hand. My approach uses osteopathic manipulation in the form of myofascial release and corrective exercises geared towards an individual's posture in order to create change in posture and structure. Structure = function. If your body isn't functioning correctly, there will be compensation and that' when we have pain. Yogis and practitioners in Chinese medicine have known this for years but we have overlooked the individualized approach to medicine and we cannot neglect the client's specific postural issues. Compensation and dysfunction can not only create pain but also manifest itself with emotional issues and can affect many processes in your body including the lymphatic, gastrointestinal and neurological systems. If you have ever read about somatic experiencing or psychosomatic medicine, you will be familiar with how the body can also affect the mind. The body is a manifestation of the mind at times. Helping to align the body's posture and structure can also be an adjunct to psychiatry and psychology as well. The true osteopath believed that the structure of the body needed to be corrected in order to affect change in the other systems of the body. That is the intention of my therapy and together, the client and myself, we will be able to work together in order to create that change. Personally, I dealt with chronic pain for many years and had to go through the journey of modern medicine to understand the shortcomings of western medicine's approach to chronic pain. My goal is to help others gain a pain free life and reach their potential. It's a process. It takes commitment. It takes intention and purpose from an individual to create change.
