Estimad@s coleg@s!! / Dear colleagues!!
I'm humble to share this post with you and greatly appreciate your support in helping me spread the word.
My colegas, la Dra. Marianela Rodriguez (Puerto Rico) y Dra. Alina Uribe (Colombia) and I will be teaching the first in person training of Components of Care in Perinatal Mental Health in ESPAÑOL this coming July at the 37th Postpartum Support International conference in Washington, DC.
MUCHAS GRACIAS! SI SE PUEDE!
Did you know that 1 in 3 Latina women suffer from postpartum depression (PPD)? Often, the shame, guilt, and stigma surrounding mental health and parenthood, especially in LatinX communities, prevent birthing people from seeking help.
Liliana, a perinatal mental health certified therapist and mom, felt an immense amount of shame while battling PPD. "While we took these photos, my mind was in another place, battling dark thoughts and crippling self-criticism. I lied in my psychiatric and OB appointments, silently cried, and felt like the worst mom in the universe."
Liliana eventually shared her feelings with her husband and attributes her perinatal psychiatrist as her lifesaver and one of the reasons why she survived PPD.
Representation in the perinatal mental health field matters and improves the outcomes when cultural congruency exists between the client and provider. That is why Postpartum Support International (PSI) is excited to announce that registration is open for the FIRST in-person Perinatal Mood Disorder Components of Care and Advanced Psychotherapy training en Español at the PSI Conference on July 24-25 and 28th.
If you are a Bilingual provider supporting Spanish-speaking families, this training is for you! PSI is a global nonprofit organization offering support for the emotional well-being of families. This international evidence-based curriculum is designed for nurses, physicians, social workers, mental health providers, childbirth professionals, social support providers, etc. It will teach the assessment and treatment of perinatal mood disorders in a culturally relevant way for Spanish-speaking communities.
