Hello PLTS! As graduation approaches, many of our beloved members plan on taking the LSAT to apply for Law School! The PLTS board is happy to announce that we will be having weekly LSAT study sessions on Monday from 11 AM - 12 PM in the Kerckhoff State Room! This is a great opportunity to set some time aside for the LSAT and engage with your peers who are also planning on taking the LSAT! We look forward to seeing you there! Please also note that we offer exclusive LSAT discounts to various prep companies if you are a verified member! Meet the Judges 👨‍⚖️👩‍⚖️

Judge Leonard Torrealba serves as the Judicial Officer for the Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles, graduating from UCLA and earning his J.D. from George Washington University. Leonard was born and raised in Venezuela and moved to Los Angeles at age 17. Leonard worked as a trial lawyer for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for 34 years, where he was assigned to various trial and management positions, including the Public Integrity, Healthcard Fraud, and Consumer Protection Divisions. He founded the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Notario Fraud Unit and served as the unit’s first deputy in charge. Leonard was a founder of the Latino Prosecutors’ Association and Latino Prosecutors’ Foundation, serving multiple terms as President for both organizations. Leonard was on the board of direectors Amnesty International from 2020-2023 and is an advocate of human education for school age children, political integrity, and corporate accountability throughout the world.

Judge Shelly Torrealba grew up in Rural Michigan and spent her summers milking cows and driving tractors on her family’s small dairy farm. She graduated from Central Michigan University and earned her J.D. from Southwestern Law School. Shelly was the first in her family to graduate from college, and based on her grandmother’s genealogy research, she is the only lawyer, now judge, in her entire family history. Before being appointed to the bench in December 2010, she was a Deputy District Attorney for 17 years with assignments in the S*x Crimes Divison, Justice System Integrity Division, and Community Prosecution. Judge Torrealba is a former Assistant Supervising Judge of Criminal Limited Jurisdiction, has presided over a variety of felony and misdemeanor jury trials, and is currently assigned to the Foltz Criminal Justice Center, presiding over long-cause preliminary hearings. Judge Torrealba is dedicated to community outreach, which is exemplified by her involvement in a variety of mentoring programs.

In collaboration with UCLA’s very own Business Law & Investing Society, PLTS is proud to announce that we will be hosting Mark Sacks this Wednesday on February 23rd, from 6:00 to 7:50 PM!

Mark Sacks graduated from Harvard Law School, formerly working in Big Law as a civil litigator, and also as a criminal prosecutor! Mark has also been teaching LSAT Prep for over 20 years, serving as the founder of ScoreItUp LSAT Prep. Mark has garnered valuable LSAT experience, and will be coming to speak with PLTS and BLIS members! We encourage everyone to RSVP for this exciting event as well as getting the chance to win an LSAT Prep book!

Director Gillen will be sharing insights into the admissions process, preparation strategies for law school, and how community college transfers, along with various other underrepresented communities, can position themselves for success at UC Irvine Law.

We encourage everyone to come to this event, as it will be an important opportunity for those interested in UCI Law, OC Law, and general insights into the law school admissions process.
