❌ MYTH: “Anxiety doesn’t have any physical symptoms so it can’t be real - it’s all in their head”
✅ FACT: Anxiety does not only produce a mental and emotional reaction, but it can also have many debilitating physical ailments. Those suffering from anxiety can see the disorder appear in a variety of ways. Impacting their organs - causing heart palpitations, increased blood pressure, changes in bowel movements resulting in nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and constipation, they may even see skin lesions, rashes, or hives. Anxiety can alter sleeping patterns in sufferers, all consuming thoughts and worries consuming hours of precious and healing sleep hours having those struggling to feel more fatigued, irritable, and exhausted. The constant worries and bodily reactions causes anxious individuals to eat less or more, eventually producing rapid weight loss or gain. Just because you can’t always see the manifestations of anxiety, since many sufferers don’t normally talk about it, doesn’t mean it does not exist or cause loved ones to feel lonely, overwhelmed, or obligated to stay away from you and others due to debilitating symptoms.

❌ MYTH: “Anxiety disorders are not common”
✅ FACT: Anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness affecting individuals in the United States. One of the most important things to note is that there isn’t just one type of anxiety disorder and each of them have different and various symptoms. Each anxiety disorder can have severe impacts on every day routines and one should seek treatment and counseling to better understand how to improve their quality of life. 💜

Just because anxiety disorders are not usually spoken about due to it being stigmatized does not make it any less common. Let’s deconstruct these stigmas and talk openly about the different anxiety disorders and the impacts it has on people all around the world.
