Reiki derives from the belief that every living being emits an energy field, a belief supported by multiple scientific studies on resonance and frequency. When we as human beings experience dis-ease, that energy field becomes imbalanced. Reiki allows us to right that imbalance and heal energy fields by transmitting Universal Energy, or Ki Energy, through the palms of our hands. This method is othe

rwise known as a hands-on-healing technique or palm healing technique. The concept of universal energy can be found throughout both ancient and modern cultures. It is Chi in China, Prana in Hindu India, Mana in Hawaii, Ruah in Hebrew, Vitality in Western Philosophy, and even The Force in popular culture. The goal of Reiki is to keep energy flowing throughout the mind, body and spirit in order to achieve perfect harmony. Studies have shown that Reiki can reduce stress, lower blood pressure, relieve insomnia, and accelerate the body’s natural healing processes. Consequently, a Reiki practice can be beneficial for those who have suffered physical injury or illness, are recovering from surgery, or experiencing psychological imbalances or emotional pain. An oddly appropriate poem as I come on campus to do research.

“Blossoms Bloom in the Fire A Tribute to Marion Woodman, February 19, 2006

Ride your horse along the edge of the sword
Hide yourself in the middle of the flames
Blossoms of the fruit tree will bloom in the fire
The sun rises in the evening

A Zen Koan”

These past months in Los Angeles have been some of the most difficult I’ve ever lived through. From the deep personal rupture of losing my home in the fires to witnessing the city itself unravel in waves of unrest—ICE raids, government failures, sirens in the night, and fires on the horizon. A city that has long felt like my sanctuary no longer feels entirely safe. And yet, I remain.

There’s a quote my father gave me from Dune that I’ve returned to often lately:
“I must not fear. Fear is the mind killer. Fear is the little death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me.” —Frank Herbert

This quote has become a daily mantra. It reminds me that we are here to walk through our fears, not to avoid them. In Jungian psychology, healing happens not by escape but by turning inward and making meaning through symbol and ritual. One such practice is the creation of a mandala, a reflection of the inner world.

So I made one. I asked ChatGPT to help me visualize what lives in my psyche right now, something I could use as a meditation at my altar.

It features the three goddesses I hold close:
🔥 Sekhmet, whose fire burns away what no longer serves
🌸 Kwan Yin, the soft lotus of compassion and my Hong Kong heritage
🕯️ Brigid, keeper of the flame and the cauldron of healing and transformation

Lotus flowers, cauldrons, and the vast night sky—these symbols are more than decoration. They are memories. Devotions. Anchors. My earliest PhD writing was about the cauldron, and the night sky continues to fuel my passion for studying creation myths. I could stare at the stars forever.

This mandala is not just an image. It is ritual. It is the act of weaving meaning from chaos. I’ll be printing it and placing it on my altar for the months ahead. I hope it inspires you to create your own form of soul practice, whatever that looks like for you. It doesn’t have to make sense to anyone else. It only needs to be yours.

After a long chapter of holding space virtually, I’m deeply grateful to share that in-person Reiki sessions are returning—every Monday in Old Town Pasadena.

These past few years have reminded me how powerful remote healing can be, and I will continue to offer virtual sessions for those who need them. But there is something truly special about being in the same room—sharing presence, breath, and energy together.

If you’ve been longing for that in-person connection, I would be honored to welcome you back.

🌿 Book your Monday session through my updated website:

(Select “In Person Session” when booking)

Thank you for walking this path with me. I can’t wait to see you again—heart to heart, energy to energy.

With love,
Jaclyn

Our Story

Reiki and Sekhem-Khrem derive from the belief that every living being emits an energy field, a belief supported by multiple scientific studies on resonance and frequency. When we as human beings experience dis-ease, that energy field becomes imbalanced or impaired. Reiki and Sekhem-Khrem allow us to heal energy fields by transmitting Universal Energy, or Ki Energy, through the hands.

The concept of universal energy can be found throughout both ancient and modern cultures. It is Chi in China, Prana in Hindu India, Mana in Hawaii, Ruah in Hebrew, Vitality in Western Philosophy, and even The Force in popular culture.

When people come to Reiki or Sekhem-Krem they either have some experience with alternative energy healing or no experience at all. Whatever your level of experience may be, Reiki and Sekhem-Khrem is an extremely non-invasive practice with noticeable positive effects on stress, health, and energy.
