On August 6th, UMMA celebrated its resilient and hardworking patients with a Community Resource Day at our Jordan Wellness Center as part of its National Health Center Week events. Over 50 families from and the neighboring community came to feel some love and appreciation.

The event included a backpack giveaway and a free fresh produce distribution just in time for the new school year! We were joined by community partners who provided their resources and information to interested families.

📉 South LA has the highest rate of preventable hospitalizations in all of LA County — and that’s no coincidence.

Here’s what the data tells us:
➡️ 1,252 preventable hospitalizations per 100,000 adults
➡️ 1,400 fewer doctors than needed
➡️ 35.2% of adults rely on Medi-Cal
➡️ Lower Medi-Cal reimbursement = fewer providers

These aren’t just numbers. They reflect real harm from decades of disinvestment.

UMMA’s Prenatal Team held a baby shower for our CenteringPregnancy patients in their final trimesters, and for some of our mothers, it was their very first one! All of our mothers left with gift bags filled with goodies for both their babies and themselves.

For a little over a month now our Mobile Dental Team has been visiting our LAUSD partner school, McKinley Avenue Elementary. Every Tuesday, our team helps bridge a distinct dental gap in South Los Angeles by bringing direct dental services and check-ups to several students. Our team will continue our outreach to students at five more local schools in the coming year! Additionally, our Mobile Dental Clinic is officially wrapped in our new UMMA Health branding. More news to come as we continue outreach!

Hace más de un mes, nuestro Equipo Dental Móvil ha estado visitando nuestra escuela asociada del LAUSD, McKinley Avenue Elementary.
