Today, UMMA Health joins so many across Los Angeles and beyond in mourning the passing of our beloved friend and partner, Umar Hakim-dey.
Umar’s life was defined by faith, service, and an unshakable love for people. He had a rare gift of seeing the best in humanity and calling others to rise to it. Wherever there was an opportunity to build bridges, uplift the vulnerable, or bring people together in service, Umar was there — fully present, heart first.
Our community was blessed to walk alongside him in many moments of compassion and collective action. He poured himself into the work of justice and mercy, always reminding us that true leadership begins with humility, sincerity, and care for others.
Umar’s passing leaves a deep void, but his legacy of faith-driven service will continue to inspire us for years to come. At UMMA Health, we will miss him dearly, and we honor his memory by carrying forward the spirit of love and service that he lived by every single day.
We pray that Allah ﷻ envelops him in mercy, forgives his shortcomings, and elevates his ranks. And we ask for ease and patience for all of his loved ones, students, colleagues, and community members who have been touched by his remarkable life. 🤲🏽
