The comments on my last post about Emma Grede are... a lot. 😮💨
And I want to address something I keep seeing: women defending a message that is working against them.”Just work harder” sounds empowering. But it’s not a feminist message!! It’s a capitalist one. 👀
It makes systemic failure feel like personal failure because it completely ignores:
👉 Who is doing the caregiving (women)
👉 Who is carrying the mental load (women)
👉 Who can’t afford childcare, healthcare, or household support (most women)
Emma has a chef, a nanny, a personal assistant, a housekeeper, etc. That infrastructure and privilege IS her competitive advantage and it is just a fact to say that most people won’t be able to have or even afford THAT level of support. 🫠💸
I will give credit where credit is due - Her hustle is real and admirable, Her looks on this press tour has been STUNNING and there have been some things she has said that I do completely agree with! 🤎
But when we tell women to simply work harder without acknowledging those systemic gaps, we’re not inspiring them. We’re gaslighting them, and that’s where I really struggle with this specific message.
You’re not falling behind because you’re not trying hard enough. You’re falling behind because the system was not built for us to thrive. That’s all I have to say for now! Let’s all be kind to each other in the comments 🫶👏
