No, 2023 won’t be the best year yet.
Nor will it be the worst.

You see, a year is a mosaic of absolutely everything.
Joy, fear, heartache, loss, beauty, pain, love.
Failure, learning, friendship, misery, exhilaration.

Each day, each moment even, is a tiny shard of glass in this beautiful, confusing creation. 2023 will be another mosaic to add to your wall of art.

A wall that shows the life, you are continuously gifted.
A wall that shows you are human.
A wall of survival.

I wish you many broken pieces of glass this year, my friends.
Because this is living.

And before you march on in to another year of ‘everything’, pause to look back, at the work you have created thus far.

It is quite something.
You are quite something.

Now onwards we go, my friends.
Onwards we go.

The truth about birth

Posted • What if we told women the truth about birth

We’d have to tell them that contractions will probably be more than “surges” or “sensations.”

That they’ll probably rock your f✨cking world and leave you begging for salvation as you clutch the edge of the tub or the hospital linens

That your gentle breathing exercises and your Spotify soundtrack will be left in the dust as you sweat and pant and sway and swear your way through it

That you’ll trip harder than any mushroom you ever did in college and vomit with the same ferocity and travel to places deep within yourself that you didn’t know existed. That you’ll float above your body and simultaneously be trapped in it with an intensity you’ve never tasted

And in that intensity, in the sweating and the swearing and the swaying and the vomiting and the endless hours of contractions crashing down upon you
You’ll find your strength
You’ll find a resilience you’ve never known
You’ll find the power you need for the journey of motherhood ahead

In the messy humanity of it all
You’ll find that you are holy
A portal to the divine
Capable of indescribable miracles
A vessel of sacred life

What if we told women the truth about birth?
We’d have to tell them they are capable of anything
Worthy of being treated like goddesses
Made to walk through the flames
Surf the tidal waves
Dive into the underworld
And come out alive

Not unscathed
Not unchanged
But whole
And healed
And ready to take on the world

If we told women the truth about birth
We’d have to admit that we’ve lied about everything else
And that they are more powerful
More fierce
More capable
More beautiful
Than we’ve ever let on.

If we told the truth about birth?
We’d shatter the world.

Posted • Yolande Norris-Clark] Women have the power to de-industrialize, de-politicize, de-medicalize and de-colonize our bodies and our reproductive lives, NOW.

The option to sidestep institutional, medical, and state domination is available by simply opting out of systems that have been developed to manufacture our subjugation for profit.

Anti-abortion laws are demeaning to be sure, but the fact is that women’s bodies cannot ever be legislated.

The primary purpose of passing laws to control women’s fertility is to obscure the fact that it’s not possible to control our fertility.

The womb is a dark, wet, secret world. It’s where each of you came from, but I’m so sorry—you can’t go back.

The power to dictate our reproductive lives is already ours.

It’s simply ours for the taking.

And this is precisely why politicians (and their minions) try so hard to program and reinforce the belief that their approval is required.

If you still believe that you need permission from your governor or your prime minister or doctor to have an abortion, you’ve been misled.

Posted • SEARCHING FOR WORDS OF PEACE

By Grandmother Maria Alice Campos Freire

At this moment I seek in my heart words of peace, words of union, after several days of perplexity in the face of events and the attitudes of the world's political leaders.

To talk about peace, it is necessary to find peace in oneself, silence, agreement with life. This is a thorough exercise, very fine.

We see war everywhere in the world today, the determination to invade, to destroy, to dominate. Warmakers speak in the name of peace, of progress, of the defense of self-determination. Everyone develops a lot of speech, but what they all really want is to continue selling weapons, and extorting riches from the earth to use for more destruction and discord.

So, for us, simple people, citizens of the world, workers, women, men, children, who don't have weapons to sell and don't want to buy weapons, who aim for the good, who revere life, we need a lot of attention and a lot of conviction in our purpose.

Warmakers have many facets and forms of manifestation. They are not only the ones who drop bombs and command tanks, but they are also the great liars who seek to instill in our minds and hearts hatred and malevolence through slander and false news. They are also the silent killers, who poison the land, the waters and the air we breathe, who poison the food we eat, who set the forests on fire out of greed and evil. They are everywhere, in government posts, spreading racism, separation, dispute between people, making our diversity the fraud of separation.

Therefore, to defend peace, we need conviction. Conviction in true love, in the cultivation of life. If we take sides in the war, we have already deviated from the goal. We need to misidentify ourselves from the war dispute, all sides are warmakers.

All I want for X-mas is..... nails it again!!!!

Posted • This year, like every year, I asked Santa for a little more patience. A little more grace. A little more time.
The days are long and messy and mundane. An endless cycle of dishes and laundry. Lessons to plan, meals to make, floors to mop. My patience is often thin. My temper short. I often forget to see the magic through the mayhem and meltdowns. I'm not always the mom I want to be.
And despite those endless hours between dinner and bedtime, all too often it seems like the days slip away. Each night takes them a little farther from babyhood. A little farther from my arms.
So maybe, Santa can buy me a bit of time. Stretch these years of childhood just a little bit longer. Give me some grace when I'm too tired to see the magic.
And if not-- if my kiddos are intent on growing at lightning speed, as they seem to be...
I hope at least they know....
That these have been the best years of my life.
That loving them has been my greatest dream come true.
That once the sun sets and they're settled into their beds, I often lay there, just breathing them in, whispering silent prayers of gratitude for this wild ride of motherhood, and this incredible gift of holding them and guiding them through this world.
I hope my children know that they are my everything-- even when I'm not my softest, kindest, most patient self.
And perhaps it's too much, but I hope that they share this wish to slow down time. To love every messy, chaotic moment of their childhoods. To stay here, just a little longer, in the safety of their mama's love.

Independence Day is cancelled!

Posted • “INDEPENDENCE DAY”
Before some of y’all get up in my DMs about America and freedoms and if I don’t like it I should go back to where I came from, SAVE IT. In the words of James Baldwin, “I love America more than any other country in this world, and, exactly for this reason, I insist on the right to criticize her perpetually.”
We’re a few days out from July 4th, and I wanted to share this early so folx could have some time to reflect and think about what “Independence Day” really is, and who it was created for. (Hopefully y’all also remember that Jefferson, the main author of the Declaration of Independence, was an enslaver.)
I’ve seen an enormous amount of excitement from people who recently learned about Juneteenth, and I’m wondering if they’ll make the connection and understand what false narrative is being perpetuated by containing to laud July 4th as a day of freedom in the United States. I wonder how quickly companies and business that posted black squares will soon have social media feeds decked out in red, white, and blue, promoting their 4th of July sales and specials.
For those who are recently waking up to the history of racism and oppression, remember that a crucial part of ABAR is the discomfort. This includes recognizing how things you’ve done are inherently problematic, as well as making the decision to alter your words and actions. Letting go of things that are familiar, comfortable, and nostalgic can be hard, but if we cannot confront the truth of our history, we cannot move forward.
If you’re heading to a July 4th BBQ, can you also fundraise for BLM? Can you work to educate people in your social circles about our country’s history? Will you speak up when friends or family members tell you to stop making everything political, or accuse you of disrespecting America on the country’s “birthday”? What does your anti racism look like when you’re moving from reading books to taking action?
