One of the biggest mindsets we can shift when it comes to training our pets is going from “My pet is acting out of spite” 👉 “My pet is drawing my attention to something more significant in my life”

If your pet is barking, ask yourself whether there are relationships in which you do you not feel heard.

If your pet’s behavior is rooted in anxiety, ask yourself whether there are areas of your life in which you can create more calm and stability.

When we understand the deep ways in which our pets’ energy, habits, and tendencies mirror our own, we create lasting behavioral changes for our pets and ourselves.

Reminders to be mindful are everywhere, even underground, like the "Mind the Gap" warnings in London Tube stations.

Mindfulness can be about recognizing the gaps we perceive between our needs, experiences, relationships, and the expectations we held for each. And our pets are experts at helping us do just that.

Training our pets can sometimes feel like a game of expectations. We expect them to behave a certain way, and they have their own perspective on the situation. But when we become more mindful, observing what’s really going on, we can start to bridge the gap between our expectations and what our pets are communicating to us.
