When you take a moment to invite stillness and silence into your life, you actually open up a new world of possibilities. You become present and can identify distractions and negative thought patterns so you can focus on what’s important to you. I recently lead a group of women on a wellness retreat in Palm Springs and it was as magical as I hoped it would be. In between the various activities for the attendees, I settled into a few moments of quiet for myself. I can’t wait to share more from the retreat over the next few weeks. So grateful for the experience and for the phenomenal women who took the leap to care for themselves. 💕

46 years! 🎉Happy birthday to me! 🎂Here are the most important lessons over my decades of life that I want to share with you:

✨From 0 to 10 years old, the importance of family
✨In my teens, the importance of education
✨ in my 20s, I learned that it's okay to be open to trying new things - jobs, moving, marriage.
✨In my 30s, I learned to love myself no matter what.
✨In my 40s, I learned how rewarding it is to help people with their well-being.

Throughout the years, I learned that I can do hard things, survive challenges and grow from those obstacles. I feel so grateful to hit 46 years in the way that I am kicking it off today. Thank you to everyone for following along on my journey. Especially thankful to the family and friends who have shared their love and light with me. 🙏🏽✨💕

Special shout-out to

"Costco. Sprinter van. Hand-me-downs. These are some of the words that I hear often when I share that I’m a mom of a big family— seven kids ranging in ages from one to fifteen. My story gets even juicier when people learn that of those seven kids are three sets of twins. Anything out of the ordinary naturally piques people’s interest and a family with more than the average of two kids falls into that category. So while I am used to fielding people’s questions and politely offering responses that offer a glimpse into our big family, there are definitely days when the curious or borderline obtrusive inquiries can hit a nerve."

Sales! Shopping! Stress! In my rush to snag all the great deals and knock out most of my holiday shopping list, I end up with major FOMO. Here's a tip on how to use mindfulness to handle that pervasive holiday stress:

1. Recognize your triggers - whatever makes you upset, anxious, etc and try to keep them at bay
2. Organize a plan - make a list of gifts, and block off a set amount of time when you can shop
3. When you feel yourself getting overwhelmed while doing holiday things or if you can't avoid your triggers, do this quick grounding technique: close your eyes and countdown from 10 to 1 breathing slowly and deeply after each number.
4. Remind yourself, "I'm doing the best that I can."

I hope this 4 step holiday stress busting plan helps you out this season! If you want even more help handling your stress in a mindful way, my online self-paced mindfulness courses for infertility and parenting are 30% off this week! The courses have useful tips like the one I just shared as well as many video-guided meditations that you can follow whether you are new to mindfulness or have dabbled in it before. Raise your hand if you're cooking for Thanksgiving...as you can see my hand isn't raised. I thought about it briefly (very briefly) and passed on the idea. I had to be honest with myself about what I could handle and what I needed to let go. I had a huge deadline for the final manuscript of my second book yesterday!!! and have been chained to my computer for weeks. As much as I love cooking and entertaining (former chef, catering manager and event planner 🙋🏻‍♀️) I had to let go of some expectations I placed on myself. The expectation to do everything perfectly for everyone. It's just too exhausting to live up to.

In my efforts to be mindful of my needs and honor them, I owned up to the fact that this year was a potluck/ordering food kind of year. I just wanted to be with my family rather than worry about cooking.

Recognizing expectations and owning your truth can be difficult when you don't take time to pause and tune in. But how can you challenge something when you aren't aware of its existence?

I recently spoke on the podcast on the topic of personal wellness taking a backseat for moms. Check out this great episode - link in bio.

I hope this holiday you have a moment to check in with yourself and let go of any unrealistic expectations that no no longer serve you. You deserve to have a joyous Thanksgiving rooted in gratitude and love. xoJo

PS, this Barefoot Contessa cookbook is one of my faves
