1. We moved to rural Florida.
2. Rural Florida magic.
3. Woodsy and his bestest gal (we’re all jealous).
4. Bertie fu***ng died and we buried her with Woods’ placenta & planted a dogwood sapling over her. We miss her everyday.
5. Woods started farm school.
6. We’re on a boat.
7. Woods learned to swim & Michael is an amazing parent.
8. Woods & Frida charging up their glow-in-the-dark pjs.
9. Did I tell you we moved to rural Florida?
10. Still breastfeeding at 2.5 years & going strong.
11. is popping & I’m so proud of her.
12. This stray slithered onto our land & made himself at home & I think he’s right.

having older children/siblings present at birth can be a wonderful way in which to normalize this (oftentimes) taboo topic for the next generation. it can be helpful to prepare children for the experience, so that they can become familiar with the sights & sounds that accompany labor so that they are not frightened by them come game day. role playing the various positions one might labor in, practicing roaring like a lion together, watching animal birth videos & gradually working up to human birth videos are all helpful ways in which to prepare. similarly, having a trusted adult devoted to helping the child navigate their own experience of the birth can help the birthing person further relax into their labor, knowing that the older child’s needs are being met & that they can step out if things get too intense. in fact, you can even hire a “sibling doula” to fulfill this role. that said, it is also important to consider your own needs, maybe you might find it too distracting to have another little body in the room, so it is important for you to weigh the pros & cons of this decisions to determine what works best for you.
