Happy Chinese New Year! Today marks the start of the Lunar New Year, primarily used in East Asian cultures, it follows the Lunar calendar and is marked by the first New Moon of the year, so will fall between late January and Mid-February, depending on the the moon cycle.
Growing up in America, I always celebrated new years on 1 January. It marks the beginning of a new year worldwide and internationally represents the official start of the year. January 1st is based on the Gregorian Calendar, which is the the global standard for tracking time and is based on the Earthās orbit around the Sun, which is 365.2425 days long (which is why we have leap year).
I love new years, I always loved the feeling of the beginning and start of something new. I love the moment when a whole city gets together in an iconic centre, and gathers together and in unison countdown the final 10 seconds of the year. The anticipation is felt by everyone around you, until the sky erupts in an explosion of light and sound as fireworks paint the sky, marking not just the end of a year but the promise of a fresh start. š Then, as the crowd disperses, the once traffic-packed streets transform into open walkways filled with celebration. On this one special night, you can wander freely for the rest of the night wishing strangers that you would typically walk by with no eye contact, and exchange smiles and greet each other a "Happy New Year!"
As an avid traveller, I loved experiencing new years in different major cities throughout the world. It gave me that one unforgettable night to truly experience the pulse of the city, the energy of its people, the vibrancy of its streetsāalive in a way seldom felt throughout the rest of the year.
Over time, as I started using the new moon each month to set my intentions and to connect with my new years resolutions, I have started celebrating the Lunar New Year, in a more spiritaual sense. Chinese New Year has felt more like a true reset, a powerful marker of new beginnings, where I feel more connected with the energy of universe and feel a deeper connections with my intentions for the year ahead. šāØ
As I get older, I still love ringing in the New Year in different cities around the world, experiencing the excitement and culture of each place. But over time, as Iāve started using the new moon each month to set my intentions and align with my resolutions, I've found myself celebrating the Lunar New Year in a more spiritual way. Chinese New Year now feels like a true reset, a powerful symbol of new beginnings, where I connect more deeply with the energy of the universe and feel a stronger bond to my intentions for the year ahead.
Especially this January, with the LA fires ravaging through my hometown and with President Trump taking office, it felt long and tough. For me, January become a time of deep reflection on the past lunar yearāan opportunity to pause and release everything that no longer served me. It was a moment to shed the weight of the old, making space for the new.
Coincidentally, 2025 is both the Year of the Snake in the Chinese Zodiac and a 9-year in numerology, making it a year of powerful transformation. The Snake symbolizes represents transformation, intuition, and shedding the old to make way for the new. In numerology, 2025 (2+0+2+5) is the 9-year, which is a period of completion and transformation. Itās the final year of the cycle, representing endings, release, and reflection. Both energies encourage deep introspection and personal growth, urging you to let go of outdated habits, emotional baggage, and fears. This is a time to reflect on your journey, clear away what no longer serves you, and make room for a fresh start.
The Snake also represents intuition, patience, and strategic thinkingāqualities that guide you to approach challenges with grace and focus. Similarly, the 9-year invites you to wrap up loose ends, heal, and embrace closure, setting the foundation for a more aligned future. Together, these energies create a space for personal renewal, giving you the chance to reset and realign and step into a more authentic and powerful version of yourself. Just like the snake sheds its skin, this year offers you the opportunity to shed old patterns and embrace growth on a deeper level. Itās a powerful time to reset and align your intentions with the natural flow of the universe.
As we move into this new lunar year, I invite you to listen to my LifeVision meditation and reflect on the past year and decide what you are releasing and make your intentions for this new lunar new year. What worked? What didnāt? What are you ready to release? This is a powerful time to clear away the emotional clutter, letting go of anything holding you back from stepping into a new phase of your life. Release the weight, the fears, the doubts, and make room for the new. Use this moment as a fresh start, a chance to shed the past and prepare for whatās ahead. As you set your intentions for the upcoming lunar year, be intentional about what you want to manifest. Focus on what brings you peace, growth, and alignment with your true self. Write them down, speak them aloud, and trust that the energy of the universe will support you.
