We learned at ~32 wks🤰🏻that baby was butt down (after he'd been head down for quite a while). I increased the amount of techniques I was already doing, had a Chiropractor do adjustments, did a round of targeted acupuncture and , but he still wasn't budging. I did and chiro for a few weeks before the others, which in hindsight, I should have jumped on it all ASAP to increase our chances of him turning on his own.
Through all of this I was really working on my mindset and talked to baby often. I journaled affirmations and prayed that no matter what happened, as long as we were safe that was all that mattered.🙏🏼 Let me tell you, as someone who DESPERATELY did not want a hospital birth, it took time for me to really and truly be OK with that possibility.
Being in LA, we have access to a lot, which I am very thankful for. Given that, and my Nurse-Midwife who had worked with an in-network OG OB - I had access to someone who not only could perform the ECV, but who does should the ECV not be successful. I put my faith in God, baby, and this man's expertise.
We had to be in the hospital just in case the procedure would induce labor (placental abruption, waters breaking, etc) again, something I had come to terms with, and was truly okay with that if it was to be. I’m not going to sugar-coat it… it didn’t feel good🥴 Imagine an already very crowded abdomen pushing all your organs out of the way, being manipulated to maneuver this cantaloupe-sized baby. It was hard to breathe because of the pressure and direction he had to push to turn the baby. But it was over almost as quickly as it began. When he removed his hands and used the ultrasound machine to check baby’s position one final time, I asked “did he turn?” and with the “yep, head down” confirmation, the biggest and purest tears of joy streamed down my face.😭
I was oh so thankful for his work, baby’s willingness to turn and God’s hand to keep us safe. Now, for him to STAY head down a few more weeks! (P.S. There some more important details I want to share, so be sure to check out my stories highlight, as well as my husband’s POV.)
