TO COVER A LAMP WITH FUR IS TO WELCOME EACH NIGHT

Inspired by the local tradition of Krampus, evil figures dressed with fur during the Christmas period, we modified and re-interpreted some elements of this custom and created our new vision and storyline.

Instead of struggling between good and evil our characters are struggling between good and good in search for spiritual respect.

Joshua and I collected local objects and created costumes on our own.

“Entre la Pared, Parte Prima” expresses the mental growth, self identity and the impact that Mexican culture had on Alfonso Estrada's life as a Q***r Latinx.

Alfonso is first generation Mexican-American, raised in a predominantly hispanic community in the South-East Side of San Antonio, TX. Although he was surrounded by Chicano Texan culture, his first language was Spanish and the majority of his cultural upbringing at home revolves around traditional Mexican beliefs. We became friends in 2018 and started to explore this beautiful journey together.

Floating between past and present, CONVERSATION PIECES portrays the dreamlike feeling of duality and confusion that sometimes arises from being part of two different cultures and realities.

Where is home? How do I relate with friends and dear ones in my memories, and the present time, in my current home? How do I cope with a subtle yet powerful feeling like nostalgia? Have I become the eternal outsider? In what language do I dream?
