Behind every smiling picture on social media, there may be a silent battle nobody knows about.
While many people mocked, criticized, and dragged Alexx Ekubo online, nobody truly knew the pain he may have been carrying privately. Imagine fighting for your life through cancer diagnosis, hospital visits, treatments, fear, sleepless nights, and emotional breakdowns, yet waking up daily to face cruel comments, ridicule, and endless social media pressure.
This is the dangerous part of social media:
People judge what they see, but they never see the tears behind closed doors.
As a doctor, one thing I have learned is that emotional stress can deeply affect the mental and physical health of anyone battling a serious illness. Patients fighting cancer already struggle with anxiety, fear of death, depression, body changes, treatment side effects, and emotional exhaustion. Adding public humiliation and online bullying can make that burden even heavier.
Sometimes, the people we call “proud,” “quiet,” “withdrawn,” or “acting strange” are actually trying to survive silently.
This should remind us to be kinder with our words.
Not every battle is visible.
Not every pain is announced online.
And not everyone smiling in pictures is truly okay.
Before typing that harsh comment, remember:
You may be speaking to someone fighting the hardest battle of their life in silence.
Be kind.
Be human.
Words can heal, but words can also destroy. Rest in peace gem Alex Ekubo
