“Be as successful as you possibly can be, together” - Cappadonna - Wu Tang Clan

Dan here of Mind EQ:
After watching Of Mics and Men (for like the 4th time) featuring the I was so struck by what they’d done together. Their group & solo albums was the music of my youth, and today they’re still playin’ in my house, my car, and in my head.

The quote above was said by Cappadonna during a conversation they were having together over dinner. Throughout the series, they’d often say to one another about the group - “United we stand. Divided, we stick together anyway.”

Their dedication is remarkable despite how real their struggle. The experiences they described and what the documentary reveals is tremendous. It’s loaded with so many lessons on leadership, collaboration, effort, passion, empathy, friendship, failure, success, compassion, sacrifice, faith, hardship, loss, grief, resilience, perseverance and selflessness. To call it “moving” would be a major understatement.

gave an amazing interview during the series and when talking about hearing them for the first time, was like “Yo, what IS this” and was saying exactly how millions also felt upon hearing their music and the impact it had and still has.

The last few years I’ve been speaking with countless people, and thinking quite a bit about the term “secular mindfulness.” The term is of course useful and important. Yet we feel there’s a way to convey and offer training that provides an opportunity for some to take the practice of mindfulness far deeper.

When considering this today, a section from Dogen Zenji’s essay - Fukan Zazengi includes a section that seems to get to the heart of this opportunity. He’s pointing to Buddhist/dharma teachings without saying anything about them. Dogen Zenji was a Japanese zen priest, philosopher and poet that lived in the early 1200’s.

Thank you and to all the others at Mission Dharma and the participants for making this half-day retreat happen. Practicing can be quite remarkable. We at Mind EQ look forward to making our offerings more and more accessible, and this past Saturday was inspiring.
Many aspects of our collective practice were deepening & enjoyable, but one that struck deeply were the teachings on conceptual proliferation aka papañca. Tanha Papañca (desire) Ditthi Papañca (view) and Mana Papañca (conceit).Thank you 🙏

Blog post - We Need To Start Talking About The Implications of Technology. Link to post in bio.
After watching the I wanted to share this blog post again from 2/28/20 where I shared a lot from talks and interviews with & by based on his presentations and articles. It’s full of data for those that dig facts.
In 2019 the average adult spent 3 hours, 43 minutes on a mobile device each day.
Kids ages 8-12 are spending almost 5 hours/day in front a screen, while teenagers spend nearly 7.5 hours/day on screens, and this is not including time spent on schoolwork.
Researchers at Cambridge & Stanford developed a computer model in 2015 that can judge someone’s personality more accurately than their friends and family. Facebook knows you better than your coworkers, roommates, parents, siblings and in some cases, your spouse. They can predict a person’s personality traits better than any other human participants. The algorithm only needed access to just 10 Facebook likes to beat a work colleague, 70 to beat a roommate, 150 to beat a parent or sibling, and 300 to beat a spouse. See for yourself - www.applymagicsauce.com
The average American checks their phone 47 times/day. The average millennial, 86 times/day.
