Knee AND low back pain? Check your hamstrings! 🤔
If you dont have pre existing or obvious knee or low back injuries and suffer from pain in both, strained or fatigued hamstrings could be the cause.
When the hamstrings are tight, they pull on the hip bone, causing a slight rotation, which can affect the natural curvature of the back and cause pin and tightness in the low back. Weakness in the hamstrings can contribute to knee pain and increase the probability of a hamstring strain.
Exercises that can flare up tight hamstrings include dead lifts, squats, kettlebell swings, sumo squats, hip thrusters and others. If you're experiencing pain or discomfort in the hamstrings or knees and low back, take a couple of days off exercise to ice, stretch, foam roll and soak in Epsom salt to alleviate the pain and discomfort. If all else fails, book a session for some "Damage Control" with yours truly!
