Knee AND low back pain? Check your hamstrings! 🤔

If you dont have pre existing or obvious knee or low back injuries and suffer from pain in both, strained or fatigued hamstrings could be the cause.

When the hamstrings are tight, they pull on the hip bone, causing a slight rotation, which can affect the natural curvature of the back and cause pin and tightness in the low back. Weakness in the hamstrings can contribute to knee pain and increase the probability of a hamstring strain.

Exercises that can flare up tight hamstrings include dead lifts, squats, kettlebell swings, sumo squats, hip thrusters and others. If you're experiencing pain or discomfort in the hamstrings or knees and low back, take a couple of days off exercise to ice, stretch, foam roll and soak in Epsom salt to alleviate the pain and discomfort. If all else fails, book a session for some "Damage Control" with yours truly!

Shoulder pain? Try applying pressure to these "trigger points" for relief.

A trigger point is the sensitive part of a muscle, usually where the nerve root is located, that causes pain and irritability when under tension from injury or overuse. Stimulation of these points can help relax the muscles around joints to relieve pain and pressure.

Use a thumb, or pointed index and middle fingers to apply pressure to the area while deeply breathing in and out. Hold for about 30 seconds while breathing... do this 3 or 4 times.

For the back side, have a partner help, or use a self massage tool such as a "Thera-cane", "Muscle hook" or similar products found on Amazon or your local sporting goods store!

If you need further Damage Control, text or DM to set up a session!

So after taking last year off, at least from social media on this Sports Therapy account... I'm back! Thanks for everyone who is still following me, or maybe just didnt get around to "unfollow". But it's a new year and reflecting over the past year lead me to feel obligated to at least provide some useful content for my good and faithful followers! Thank you for being there and supporting this things that I love. Although life has pulled me in a different direction in both my personal and professional lives, this is still my passion and will always be. 2020 marks my 17th year working hands on with people from all walks of life. From kids, to professional athletes and people well into their 90s with chronic pain. 2019 was my slowest year (intentionally) in order to give myself a break and venture into a bit of different way of making a living. That being said, I will be available on a limited basis to help with recovery from injuries, strains, sprains, fatigue, overuse, wear and tear...etc. please text or DM as I never answer my phone due to a huge amount of Robocalls! Lol
I will be available certain weeknights and limited weekends only. I will do my best to make it work or give you a couple of scheduling options! Thanks for the continued support over the last 17 years!
