I was wrong.

Back when it first started working in the fitness industry, I truly believed that diet and exercise were the KEYS to weight loss.

✔️ I gave my clients good workouts.
✔️ Helped them adjust their calories and macros.

And I honestly thought that was all they needed.

But then...

Diet + exercise stopped worked for me 🙋🏼‍♀️

💪 I was working out a TON! (Hours a day)
🍳 And eating ridiculously healthy.

But I started gaining weight and feeling weaker.

AND I was dealing with insomnia, fatigue, bloating, a weak immune system and anxiety.

Diet and exercise were not working anymore, and I had no idea why.

Now I know why:
My body was living in conservation mode.

The stress from my life and lifestyle took over my body.

And when that happens... your body is just trying to survive.

Weight loss is not survival.

So your body won't do it (and sometimes it will do the opposite).

🧡 All this to say, if you are working out and eating healthy but still stuck... the answer isn't to push harder.

It's to figure out if your body is primed for weight loss right now.

And if it's not... then step one to your weight loss journey should be getting your body primed for that.

My birthday is tomorrow!

And I've been reflecting on what I would like to tell younger versions of myself.

I am thinking about 10 years ago when I was 24. Back then I was a few years into my career in fitness and truly thought that diet and exercise were the keys to weight loss.

Oh how wrong I was.

Over the last decade I have seen how complex our bodies are.

If diet and exercise were all it took to lose fat and be healthy.... we would all have our dream bodies.

There are other things at play like hormones and stress.

So if I could travel back to when I was 24 and give myself some advice - I would say you need to deeply understand your body and your clients bodies.

Understand the patterns.

Understand the menstrual cycle.

Understand the symptoms of imbalance and how to tailor my advice to those things.

And I would create the system I have now for helping clients so much sooner

Stress ALSO looks like:

→ under-eating or constantly dieting
→ pushing through workouts when you’re already exhausted
→ poor sleep
→ never fully recovering
→ being sick, injured, or fighting off something
→ doing “all the right things”… but your body still feeling off

And this is why when I help clients with stress-related fat loss issues,

I almost never tell them to “just remove stress” or simplify their schedule.

Because you can’t remove all stress.

It’s everywhere.

And most of it?
You don’t even realize your body is dealing with it. 🙈

Which is why I hear this all the time:

“Ugh, I’m trying to lower my stress but it’s not working.”

I know.

Because that approach alone won’t work.

Not because you’re doing anything wrong...
but because you’re trying to solve it the wrong way.

You don’t need to eliminate stress.

⚠️ You need to change how your body is responding to it. ⚠️

That’s the shift.

And that's what I help my clients do.

The wellness industry wants you to believe something is wrong with you.

Because if you think you’re broken…
you’re much more likely to buy the pill, the powder, or the program promising to “fix” you.

➡️ But most of the women I work with aren’t broken at all.

🚨 Their bodies are doing exactly what they’re designed to do under stress.

When your system feels overwhelmed for long enough, your body starts conserving.

Energy gets lower.
Fat loss slows down.
Sleep gets worse.
Cravings get louder.
Workouts feel harder.
Your body holds on instead of letting go.

Not because it’s failing.

Because it’s protecting you.

The problem is most advice tells you to respond by pushing harder.

→More restriction.
→More intense workouts.
→More trendy supplements.

But if your body is already in conservation mode…

Adding more pressure usually just reinforces the cycle.

✅️ What actually helps is restoring balance.

Supporting your nervous system.
Regulating stress signals.
Helping your hormones feel safe enough to respond again.

That’s the work.

Not fixing a broken body

But helping a protective one find its way back to balance.

Happy International Women's Day everyone! ✨️

Women weren't included in medical studies until the 1990s!

And fitness studies have always had a huge gender gap.... and very few fitness studies are done on perimenopausal women or women with hormonal conditions.

It is crazy!

I say all of this to remind you to stand up for yourself! 👏

The cookie cutter advice you see online and sometimes even from your doctor needs to be taken with a grain of salt.

Doctors will often say there's nothing you can do about hormones or make you start some type of HRT or birth control.

People in the fitness space will often tell you to just push through.

That is not the reality.

Listen to coaches and professionals who specialize in female physiology and hormones and your unique needs...

Not those that just promise a quick fix with no context.

And yes I am one of those coaches who has committed the last decade to understanding the best way to work with different women.

And I am always here to support you if and when you need it.

I see it all the time.

Woman wants to lose weight, so she goes through the steps...

▪︎ Changes her diet
▪︎ Starts working out
▪︎ Walks 10k steps a day

But then, her body doesn't change...

→ So she restricts calories and food groups more.
→ Increases her workout intensity.
→ Does more cardio.

Her body still does not change. If anything she feels worse.

🙈

Now this isn't always how it is.

Which is probably why she is so confused and frustrated.

Because the exact stuff she is doing helped her lose 15lbs before.
