Where you can Learn Hope!
While 2021 has been a challenging year for most of us, it has also been a year of incredible growth for iFred. I am so proud to report that my team has used the obstacles of 2021 to inspire numerous new programs that are allowing us to teach hope even more. This October 10th, in honor of World Mental Health Day, I would invite you to explore some of the ways that you can activate hope in your life and in the lives of those around you:
The Biggest Little Book About Hope: I am excited to announce that the Second Edition of The Biggest Little Book About Hope is coming out soon on Amazon. This book explores my own personal struggles with hopelessness, the loss of my dad to su***de, my mental health journey to find hope, and how it has all cultivated in a guide that anyone can use to move from hopelessness to hope. In this new, Second Edition, I have incorporated new hope research, as well as the teachings of Hopeful Mindsets and Hopeful Cities, to more fully embrace my own history of hopelessness, and hopefully inspire others to activate hope in their lives. I have also confronted the stigma of mental health I still hold in my own heart, and moved my story to the front of the book, fully embracing my own mental health journey. While I don’t like to speak of my own su***de attempt, it was a powerful experience that took me over years to even acknowledge and is hard to talk about to this day. Yet, it has made my work more meaningful and gives me additional insights into su***de I believe few truly understand.
Hope in Healthcare Summit: On October 6th, iFred participated in the Hope in Healthcare Summit, a virtual summit that explored the role of hopefulness in addressing health disparities in communities and burnout among front-line workers. There were leaders in Hope globally, including Angele Bienvenue Ishimwe from TIP Global Health, Linda Goler Blount at Black Women’s Health Imperative, Derrick Muneene from the World Health Organization, Dr. Wendy Leonard of TIP Global Health, and more. It is an honor and a privilege to be regarded as a hope expert, and a long personal journey. I’d love for you to watch and share, as it helps spread the Science of Hope which is missing in mainstream media: Watch now
Hopeful Mindsets on the College Campus: iFred officially launched Hopeful Mindsets on the College Campus, a ten-lesson course dedicated to giving college students the hope skills they need to overcome the obstacles they will face in college and beyond. A recent JED Foundation survey found that 63% of college students report worse emotional health now than before the COVID-19 pandemic. The same study found 82% of students are dealing with anxiety, 68% with isolation and loneliness, 63% with depression. and that 60% are having difficulty coping with stress in a healthy way. Hopeful Mindsets on the College Campus utilizes the teachings of incredible experts, including Dr. Vikram Patel, Dr. James Doty, Dr. Myron Belfer, Dr. Dan Tomasulo, Dr. Jennifer Cheavens, and many more, interviews with recent college graduates, and hope science to create an innovative and engaging curriculum.
