Mazel Tov It's a Bubby

Mazel Tov It's a Bubby Hi - Welcome to the page about Jewish Women of Wisdom, a new movement known as JWOW. Browse the articles, comments, and topics that I share.

Mothers, mother-in-laws, and grandmothers: sit back in a comfortable chair with a cup of freshly brewed coffee, and accompany me down the enjoyable, albeit sometimes bumpy, road to mother-of-adult-kids-hood, mother-in-law-hood, and grandmother-hood. Offer your own opinions and let's get the conversation going.

Welcome to JWOW!’s zoom event. All about resilience. We all struggle with challenges. Life is hard and everyone has their “pekel.” (Yiddish for package!). But by reframing we can learn to turn the lemons into lemonade. This is not toxic positivity. This is dealing head on with our troubles, naming them, processing the feelings and then moving on to solution. The key feature of this zoom event is our breakout rooms.

Join and as well as other members. We will divide everyone into groups. One will discuss externally sourced challenges. And another will discuss internally sourced challenges - those that come from within our minds.

to “The Bug from the Bat”

The Bug from the Bat Comes Back
(AKA The Bug And the Zoom)

This was no time for shopping
This was no time for travel
This was no time for hopping
There's that Bug that we battle.

Oh – that mean, cruel, bad bug
Yes, that bug had to go.

So our children went home
To their shelter in place.
Where they'd call on the phone
Using voice or their face.

We knew somebody had to clean up our house,
But all were afraid of that Bug, what a louse.

So we picked out two Somebodies,
Hubby and Me.
We picked out Somebodies
The two of us, you see.

We got down and worked on our hands and our knees
We Purelled around – to kill germs and some bees
And just when we're done – without taking fees,
In came our nemesis – with cough and loud wheeze.

“Uh-oh,” Said my hubby,
“That Bug has no heart
That Bug is a bad one,
Stay 6 feet apart..

“He plays lots of tricks,
Don't you let him come near,
You know what he did
The last time he was here.”

“Play tricks?” laughed the Bug.
“Oh, my my! No, no, no!
You can now come outside
It's time to let go
You've suffered so long
In your homes, where you lurked
Now it's time to go out
And catch up with work.”

Then the Bug sneaked right in
To our home as he talked,
And he dragged us outside,
While we watched like two hawks.

“You go to the car,” said the Bug to my hubby.
And the Bug went inside
And then opened the cubbies.
“Oh here is a mask,” said the Bug with a wince
As he lifted it it up and released fingerprints.

And then I got mad,
This was no time for guests,
I said, “Bug from the Bat
Take your shoes off my mat.
I beg and beseech.
I can't have you here,
Touching masks like a leach!
You make me feel fear!”

Then I pushed out the Bug
As he touched all my food,
Then I closed up the cabinet
He sneezed where I stood.

And then Hubby and I, we were red in our faces,
All our hard work from cleaning our places,
Were ruined by the Bug who had such a nerve,
He gave us no chance for any flattening of curve!

“You flatten your curve?” asked the Germ with a wink,
“You over-react, That's just what I think,”

And then he went out and he came back again,
With all of his Things – Things 1, 2....till 10.

“Okay,” said my hubby to me with a boom.
“Let's call up our children, to meet us on Zoom.
We'll go in our study, we'll pull out the screens
We'll have a discussion with adults, kids and teens.”

And so, we did that, we sat down on our couch,
The Bug from the Bat – didn't utter an ouch.
He didn't dare speak as we viewed all the faces
Of our dear children, on all those square spaces.

We all took our turns – to speak or stay mute
We each shared our thoughts – and our feelings to boot,
The Zoom is the best – so invite all your friends
To join you on Zoom to discuss odds and ends.

If you have an issue much bigger than a speck,
Go take out your computer and figure out the tech
Just sit on the couch on your time and your terms,
Just make sure not to invite the Bug with the germ.

Hey, let's not be humble-braggers....(braggers? maybe. sometimes....LOL). Here's my rant:

I know people in my area who are devoted grandmothers but their kids live far away, and they miss them. They don’t share that “sadness,” because they are grateful for their many b…

Hey moms (and dads) of adult children....how do you do gifts over the holidays (or any time)? Do you give money? Or do you pick out a gift and hope for the best? Do you do sometimes one way and sometimes another way, depending on the situation or the adult kids.....and the grandkids' needs? Or do you have a policy of only money or only gifts? Do you give all your kids at the same time, or stagger gifts and give as needed, hoping it all balances out? Please share.....I'm working on an article on the subject....all responses and information will remain anonymous. Thanks!

Hey fellow grandmothers, we all know how this stage in our lives is busier than ever....who would have thought? Here's a list of "things to do..." in case you ever find yourself bored! :)

The Case of the Bored Child goes like this: The child has a day off from school, and flops around while whining, “Mommy, I’m soooo bored! What should I do?” To which the mom calml…
