Our goal isn’t to create an overly dependent, workaholic dog thats reliant on us making EVERY decision for them during outings or social interactions…
When it comes to working with reactivity, be that excitable or fearful, our main goal is to build confidence and promote neutrality.
In these scenarios its often easy to focus so much on classic conditioning that we forget about just how important and ground breaking operant conditioning can be!
In this case, we have practiced both classic and operant conditioning when it comes to Finn’s reactivity…
For example, when he was young and first started practicing his reactive behavior, we worked on redirecting with a simple “look” verbal-cue whenever he began to overly fixate on a trigger, followed by a high value reward. Now’a days, we’re able to reward Finn for making good decisions on his own accord, thus making him more likely to succeed in making good decisions in the future!
Believe it or not, Finn is mostly German Shepherd and Doberman! But one this is for certain and that is that he is 100% a good boy!!
