Here’s what this year looked like at Kindred Space LA & AV!

🌟137 families served across our LA and AV birth centers
🌟Opened our second center, Kindred Space Antelope Valley!
🌟Completed our 9th cohort and trained 23 new birthworkers
🌟Hired 2 midwives
🌟Supported 2 students in completing their clinical requirements

More families supported, more students trained, more access to midwifery care across LA and the Antelope Valley.

These milestones came from community trust, hard work, and a shared belief that every family deserves safe, culturally-rooted care.

We’re proud of what grew here and thankful to everyone who helped make it possible.

This sets the stage for where we’re headed next!!

✨ Fetal position before & during labor
✨ Labor through a nervous system lens
✨ Cervical change as dynamic + emotional
✨ Hands-on comfort measures, touch techniques & practical skills for every birth setting

You’ll leave grounded, skilled, and more confident in your ability to support your clients with clarity and compassion.

All levels welcome — no prior training needed.

🕊️I have so many pics to choose from but this one seemed like a good choice. It’s from her 90th birthday party earlier this year. With her crown and sash, drinking her water, sitting in her chair as folks came to sit with her, eat with her and chat with her. She always told it like it is. Sometimes too much in some folks’ opinion. Her heart and her door were always open and a plate ready to share a great home cooked meal. She shared Bibles and Bible verses. And I could go on and on with my 49 years of memories of my grandma. Mary Ina Bonnette LaCour, best known as Ina, 1935-2025.

Shocker: It takes far more energy to grow life than scientists once believed.

A Duke University study found that pregnancy rivals elite endurance events, making it the most energetically demanding activity the human body can sustain, equivalent to running a 40-week marathon.

Another peer-reviewed study published in Science found that pregnancy requires an additional 50,000 calories over nine months, with 96% of that energy coming directly from the mother. A woman’s resting energy use can rise by up to 30%, meaning her body works harder every single day, even at rest.

To put it in perspective, that’s like eating 50 pints of Ben & Jerry’s or sustaining the daily energy output of a Tour de France cyclist.

The energy it takes to grow life makes pregnancy one of the most extreme athletic feats on Earth. 🫶🏽
