Today let’s chat about & water humidifiers and tap water 💦 . While tap water may seem like a convenient choice, it is generally not recommended for CPAP humidifier. Not only the minerals and chemicals of tap water can reduced the performance of the CPAP or BiPAP machine but also increase the bacterial growth with a possible risk of getting a respiratory infections.
According to Dr. Linda Yancy, the director of infection prevention at Houston’s Memorial Hermann Health System, In CPAP machines and humidifiers, the water goes directly into the lungs and can cause pneumonia.
New data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows that, from 2015 to 2020, 214 enteric disease outbreaks — caused by pathogens including E. coli, campylobacter or shigella were found in tap water
