Strides in Recovery is a Los Angeles based nonprofit which brings the healing power of goal-oriented group running/walking to clients in addiction treatment programs. As a volunteer coach of a residential addicition recovery program's LA Marathon team, I have the honor and privilege of helping people experience the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritutal rewards of training for a major enduran

ce event, while turning their lives around. Inspired by the many success stories, I started Strides in Recovery to help others in the recovery community harness the power of running for maintaining their sobriety.

National Volunteer Week is all about celebrating the people who make our mission possible—Meet Jonathan ⭐️

As a LA CADA alumni, Jonathan hasn’t just crossed finish lines, he’s paved the way for others to do the same. He shows up to support 3 different teams each week: 2 LA CADA locations and Little House. Jonathan shares that he gives back what was so freely given to him when it mattered most ♥️

Behind every great human working hard in changing the narrative is a great support system, and we love seeing Jonathan cheered on by his biggest fans: his mother and daughter. Thank you for your dedication and the impact you leave on others. ✨🌞

Alcohol Awareness Month. 🗓️

You might recognize this familiar face 😊 We’re catching up with Justine, who first shared her story with us at SHAWL House a few years ago. Today, she celebrates 2 years and 5 months sober. ✨🥳
Justine is now working on the front lines of treatment, passing on the tools and support that helped guide her on her journey. Justine’s advice for those who might be struggling? “Keep suiting up and showing up.” It’s stories like hers that prove recovery isn’t just possible—it’s sustainable when we have a community behind us. ✨♥️

If you’re finding it hard to take that next step, help is available 24/7. Whether it’s reaching out to someone you trust or utilizing local resources, there is a community ready to welcome you. Please reach out. ✉️

At Strides in Recovery, we believe recovery and movement go hand-in-hand, and nobody embodies that better than Coach Renée. ♥️

With over a decade of sobriety, Renée brings experience, talent, and a huge heart to our community. Whether she’s sharing her story as a journalist, actress, and stand-up comedian— she is also pushing her limits as an athlete. She remains dedicated to fostering a space where long-term recovery thrives. ✨💫⭐️

She recently crossed the finish line of the LA Half Marathon after rehabbing from a spinal injury where she was told she would never walk again. Talk about resilience. We want to give a massive thank you to Renée for her constant support, for always being a source of pure, positive energy, and a shining example that we do recover. 🌱⚡️🫶🏽

From Coach Jess:
“Another quarterly shoe pick up done with more on the way ♥️

Year 3 with Strides in Recovery and the mission remains the same. Community has always been important to me whether that included riding bikes, skating, running or simply connecting and collaborating with others. It has been an honor sharing so many miles with the Strides in Recovery community, collaboration, and witnessing break throughs while running and recovery coexist. 💫

None of this is possible without your support. Thank you for your quick response and action whenever it is needed and that is always! I mean it when I say it takes a village. It’s truly inspiring running alongside individuals working hard in transforming their lives and the brave souls looking to break the cycle of addiction. We do all of this together in some way, shape, or form.”♥️

With love,
Jessica

We are proud to celebrate the House of Hope team. At Strides in Recovery, we meet our teams where they are—because finish lines aren’t just for race day. By collectively logging 13.1 miles, every member of this team earns their Half Marathon Finisher medal. 🏅✨🫶🏽

We don’t just run together, we grow together. 🌱 Every mile represents a commitment and every step represents a choice to keep moving forward. Congratulations, House of Hope! ♥️

Our Story

At Strides in Recovery, we believe that training toward a challenging goal with the support of a community is a metaphor for recovery, and for life.

Inspired by the many success stories she heard while coaching a Los Angeles Marathon Team comprised of clients, alumni, and supporters of a residential addiction treatment facility, Beit T’Shuvah, Leslie Gold started Strides in Recovery in order to bring the same life changing experiences to other recovery communities.

Strides in Recovery teams welcome everyone, regardless of level of fitness or prior athletic experience. Teams are open to anyone who wants to make a difference, for their own recovery or for others who are working hard to overcome substance use disorders. We are supportive, non-competitive communities, training together to enjoy the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual benefits of running. We prove to ourselves that we can achieve whatever we set our minds to; we celebrate successes along the way; we become part of something bigger than ourselves.

Addiction is a disease that destroys lives. You can be part of the solution. Come join us!
