🌟 Supporting Children with Autism: Understanding Sensory Overload and Sensory Integration 🌟

For children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), sensory overload can be a major challenge. Sensory processing differences mean some children struggle to process sensory information comfortably, leading to overwhelm, anxiety, and difficulty focusing. Occupational Therapy plays a key role in helping children manage sensory experiences and respond in a more balanced way.

✨ What Happens During Sensory Overload? ✨

Sensory overload occurs when the nervous system is exposed to more sensory input—like lights, sounds, textures, or smells—than it can process. This triggers the sympathetic nervous system, leaving the child feeling anxious and overwhelmed. Sensory processing difficulties can result in exaggerated responses or the need for less stimulation. Over time, this may lead to emotional dysregulation and stress.

💡Stay tuned for our upcoming blog on strategies and tools for sensory processing support.

Did you know tummy time plays a vital role in developing your baby’s Autonomic Nervous System (ANS)? 🤔

The ANS regulates key body functions like heart rate, breathing, digestion, and temperature. Tummy time helps strengthen the ANS by:

1️⃣ Supporting stress response (SNS activation) 2️⃣ Promoting relaxation and emotional regulation (PNS activation) 3️⃣ Encouraging healthy breathing patterns 4️⃣ Boosting digestion 5️⃣ Enhancing sensory integration

By helping your baby’s body balance these systems, tummy time promotes overall growth, relaxation, and stress management. Start early for a healthier, well-regulated baby! 🍼💪 For Tummy Time support, feel free to email us at Scheduling@LKSandAssociates.com.

Thank you, Michelle, , for opening our eyes and guiding us through the TummyTime! Method and Autonomic Nervous System Therapeutics!

🌟 The ABC’s of Early Intervention for Speech Delays 🌟

A – Advocacy
Early intervention empowers parents to advocate for their child’s speech and language needs, ensuring they get the right support at the right time. 💪

B – Brain Development
The brain is most receptive to learning in the early years. Addressing speech delays early helps maximize this critical developmental window. 🧠✨

C – Confidence Building
Early therapy boosts a child’s confidence in communicating, reducing frustration and improving social interactions. 💬💙

Early intervention = brighter future! 🌈

In times of uncertainty, our children look to us for guidance, comfort, and reassurance. It’s important to acknowledge their fears while also fostering resilience. Let’s speak to them with honesty, but in a way that empowers them. 🧡 Read more on the blog by following the link in our bio.

Here are a few things to remember:
✨ Validate Their Feelings – It’s okay to admit that things feel uncertain, but remind them that we are in this together.
✨ Reassure with Hope – Emphasize that, even in tough times, people come together to help and support each other.
✨ Encourage Questions – Let them know it’s okay to ask questions, and answer as simply and honestly as possible.
✨ Model Calmness – Children often take their emotional cues from us. Try to stay calm and composed, even when things are difficult.

Together, we can help our kids navigate through the storm with confidence, compassion, and hope. 💙

❤️The recent fires in Pacific Palisades have brought unimaginable hardship and uncertainty to so many families in our community. As we navigate through these difficult times, it’s more important than ever to lean on one another—whether through a kind word, a helping hand, or simply being there to listen.

Let’s remember that strength lies in unity. Together, we can rebuild, heal, and support each other through this. Stay safe, take care of yourselves and your neighbors, and know that you’re not alone.

Today’s Speech Skill Building Tip, Using Play:
🔹 Use playtime to boost language skills! Simple games like “Simon Says” or “I Spy” can help with following directions, expanding vocabulary, and improving listening skills.
🔹 Encourage turn-taking and using complete sentences during play, which can help develop both social and language skills.

Play is a powerful way to engage kids in learning while having fun! 🎉

Remember: Consistency is key—small steps every day lead to big changes in communication abilities! 🌱

🌟 Tummy Time & Baby’s Nervous System 🌟

Lisa had the privilege of attending the ANS Therapeutics Conference, where she learned so much about supporting infants’ Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) development. A HUGE thank you to Michelle, founder of the Tummy Time Method, for sharing her wealth of knowledge! 💖 Michelle’s passion for infant development inspired her to create a simple yet incredibly effective tummy time approach that empowers both parents and babies. 🙌

Did you know tummy time isn’t just about building muscles, it’s also key to your baby’s ANS development? 🤱💪

For pre-crawling infants, tummy time helps: ✔️ Strengthen muscles for future milestones like crawling! ✔️ Balance the nervous system, supporting stress regulation and calming responses. ✔️ Encourage relaxation, improving sleep and overall well-being. 💤

Make tummy time a part of your daily routine – just a few minutes, multiple times a day, can make a big impact on your baby’s development! 🍼

Thank you again, Michelle, for making tummy time fun, and incredibly beneficial for both parents and babies! 💫
