My Story ~ Poetic Justice

It began when I was introduced to my first Psychology class in high school. I was hooked. I knew I wanted to be a psychologist. I knew I enjoyed helping others through my work as a volunteer for those in need and less fortunate than myself. However, there was a time when I found myself in not so fortunate situations. Those times were filled with confusion, fear, doubt, anger, sadness, anxiety, humilation, pain, and even loss of faith.

I’m a survivor. A victim of circumstance turned into wounded warrior, . . . “You got grit.”, my Sister says. You’re a “wounded warrior”, my Therapist says. I fight for those and lift them up so they can fight for themselves one day, needing me no more. These are characteristics earned, tattooed on the heart and soul, refined by years of trial and error, defeat and triumph, blood, sweat, and tears.

Sacrifice. Waiting. Timing. . . It’s Everything. These moments are the most challenging and rewarding experiences one can bear. Only then do we start to become. Only then do we begin to see the light that nourished us from the beginning to purify and refine ourselves, through faith and perseverance, into beauty, grace, humility, dicernment, patience, acceptance, and peace. There are many other attributes that a journey like mine has brought forth . . . these are the ones most potent in my mind. These are the ones that you, too, can possess if you’re ready to begin to become.
